So I have asked around and no one has seen something so unusual at a show as this and it got me thinking about things/people that live shows could do without.
I went to see Robin Pecknold last week. Smaller place, so everyone is relatively close to the stage. There's a girl about two paces behind me who, after each song, shouts out clearly and in a mom voice or a teacher voice, " We love you very very much its good to hear you." He plays another song and again, "Capitol Hilll has misses you and we love you very much, Robin."
He nods to her and gives an "okie  dokie" look to the audience. Another song..."That was played well, Robin, I really enjoyed that one!"
Throughout the entire show. Really? The person standing next to me coined the phrase "affirmative heckling." Perfect.

What the hell?

I don't think I've dealt with it like that. I've been to a few shows where some sort of uber fanboy or fangirl gets excessively giddy and loud after every song and might yell something once or twice up at the stage. They also tend to be the jackasses yelling for one specific song, and if/when it gets played they go into some spastic and/or orgasmic seizure about it and damn near shit themselves. They are all usually drunk.

yeah, that is weird.

i think the closest i've ever heard to that was a street teamer for a horrible opening band being the only person acknowledging songs beyond a polite applause. at one point the singer said something like "this is a song from the new album" and the street teamer yells, "yeah! it's out on june 19!" the singer goes, "that is correct." lots of eyerolls from everyone else.

Someone should've nudged her hard and told her to just put it on her blog.

Yeah, I've done it once. There were only 30 or so people in the crowd, it was halfway through the show, and I was good and drunk. I think I only yelled it out twice before they played it though.

I'm a polite heckler.

I yell things like "You aren't particularly good" or "Can you please try to hurry up?"

My fave heckle of all time came after Joe Jackson berated the audience for not dancing in a fixed-seat theatre. Dude nearby shouted "THIS ATMOSPHERE IS NOT CONDUCIVE TO ROCK AND ROLL."

In college someone bought one of my roomates a Mr Bungle bootleg video for his birthday, and there was a guy just barely off-camera who kept yelling gems like "WHIP OUT'CHER DICK!" and "TAKE A SHIT ON STAAAAGE!"

i went to two shows last night.

at the first, even before the one band started to play, a guy was yelling, "play the hits!" and then during the set, you'd hear hints of the next song while they were tuning and he'd yell, "yes! play that one!" or "woo! i like it!"

at the second, the headliner's set list was boring - two non-album singles, debut LP more or less in order, the single's b-sides, and an omission from the LP as the encore. but one guy (probably the same guy) was having not of that - yelling out "woo! obits! obits! obits!" and then after the 4th song yelling, "play 'lillies in the street'... now!"

it made me think of this thread.
