Dukes of Stratosphear - 25 O'Clock

One of those bands that I know by name and little else. Seems to be an interesting pastiche-rock band in the spirit of Camper Van.

Frevo Rasgado - Gilberto Gil

A long time fan of tropicalia (or whatever its called.) This track brought smilez to my otherwise cold, dour face.

Incerteza - Beto Villares

The inclusion of this track tells me Todd and I should get together sometime over Brazilian steak and ice cold Brahma.

My Old Drunk Friend - Freakwater

Not my favoritest of genres but I appreciate the vocal similarities between old Dolly Parton mixed with a 12 yr old boy

Samson & Delilah - Rev. Gary Davis

The Rev's voice is amazing. I would sing n shout in his place of worship. With John Lee Hooker at my right hand. Also, I'd be doing the hambone.

Sure Hope You Mean It - Raphael Saadiq

I appreciate what Saddam's trying to do, but it either doesn't seem authentic enough, or the retro-soul G-spot's already been hit with the Winehouse phenomenon

Uncontrollable Urge - Devo

i have a weird cousin named Philip that used to hike his pants way up over his stomach and jump up and down at socially awkward moments. devo makes me think of what was probably going through his mind at the time.

This is cool of you to do. And I appreciate the instant feedback.
I'm glad that you're enjoying (most of) the mix and am looking forward to hearing more of what you think.

With My Face On The Floor - Emitt Rhodes

The World Strikes One - Brotherhood Of Lizards

going into this, i had no clue who the brotherhood was. but i've since made a mental note to consume more as soon as possible. if i were a rock critic i'd probably invent the term "twee melancholia" to package this in. is that wrong?

(i need their piano also)

Oh Lord, Why Lord/Prayer - Parliament

i wish more people walked down the aisle to this than the played- out pachelbel version. i bet there'd be a lot less divorce

Why Not Your Baby - Dillard & Clark

Her Father Didn't Like Me Anyway - The Humblebums

i've heard this one from you before, DTB. liked it then, love it now. i think the humblebums have infected my brain. it begs to accompany some sort of emotionally climactic scene with jason schwartzman and owen wilson if it hasn't already.

why don't more bands feature the bassoon?

"Clark" = Gene Clark; formerly of The Byrds; composer and singer of "I'll Feel a Whole Lot Better".

you know, once the strings kicked in, i thought to myself, "self, that sounds a bit like the byrds."

Will He Be Waiting For Me - Dolly Parton

my grampa was a nashville country-monger of the 60s. when he got old, we'd sit in his tv den watching Hee Haw, Grand Ol Opry and Benson while he spat Red Man into half a milk carton. dolly reminds me of those spittoon days. what great bewbs, too

Tina - Camper Van Beethoven

i think if i ever really "figured out" camper van beethoven, they'd be one of my favorite bands. they're kind of like the guy in high school that was on the football team but also played tenor sax in the marching band. i mean, wtf
