White Blood Cells, Is This It, Room on Fire, or Southern Rock Opera. Place your bets.

"Ga" x 5 can't be left out (even if I would)

Also: I think we should do as OPA! had us do & each submit two albums for consideration.

My offerings are Cat Power -- The Greatest & M83 - Saturdays = Youth.

I'd vote for Kid A.

Kid A was in 1999, if I recall correctly

I'd definitely put "In Rainbows" up there, but I think this contest should wait until January of 2010.

"It Still Moves" would have to be on there.

This is a great idea.

How would we nominate? While I certainly enjoyed OPA's thing, I didn't necessarily like randomness.

Maybe via the Shmoo poll results> Top 7 albums from each year of the decade so far would give us 63 albums. We'd need a wild card to round out a field of 64.

Cool, for some reason I thought Kid A was 99 and Amnesiac was 2000.

Then I'd vote for it.

Well this is the last year of the aughties, so we should include 00-09, 6 albums per year (4 at large wildcards) and just vote for the 6 albums that would be represented from 09.

We could all nominate 10 or 20, and the 64 with the most votes get in

Although I also think it should wait until Jan. 2010. Maybe we could do a full-out shmoopoll for the decade...

And here's another problem with the shmoo poll method; some years' top 10 can be far better than even the top 5 of another year. So grabbing the top 7 or whatever from each year you'll leave out a good number of strong albums and include weak ones in their place.

I don't feel I expressed my thought as clearly as I'd like, but you all can get the drift.

I think it should be 128 albums. This could/should occupy us the rest of the year.

Agreed. Somebody make all this happen without me lifting a finger.

I'm ok with doing a shmopoll for the 00's but I think we should do this now to generate the discussion for such a poll which head to head matchups certainly do.

Let's be a little more organized. Who wants to organize it? I'm willing to do it.

Whoever runs it should use the expiration function in the polls so that the poll ends at a specific time automatically.

Yeah right. You'll end up making a flow chart or pie graph or something.

shmoo polls started in 2002, so the idea of using the top albums of each year won't work (in addition to its other flaws). Plus, in addition to the "some years are stronger than others" factor, there's also the distance effect. I expect if we re-did the 2002 poll now, even with the exact same voters, we wouldn't get exactly the same result.
