I'd rather do singles than albums but I am more of a single-driven listener

Well this is the last year of the aughties, so we should include 00-09, 6 albums per year (4 at large wildcards) and just vote for the 6 albums that would be represented from 09.

Why not just take the 6 highest scoring albums for each year with some minimum number of ratings (20?) from the obner charts. We could give everyone until the end of the week to rate albums assuming not everyone uses that.

Too much extra work. Just go by Metacritic, Shmoo poll results and memory like I did (see above)

yeah but alot of those albums you listed suck ass and don't belong anywhere near a top of the decade competition* I could come up with a big list like that too and it would be better but it wouldn't represent obner's taste anymore than yours does. Trying to take such a list from everyone and come up with a reasonable amount of albums is far more extra work than just using the charts.

Billy, I think those are pretty much the top of the average critic's list for each of those years which is usually in step with Obner's taste.

Go ahead an list your world, jazz, singer-songwriter and Americana stuff and we'll see how far it goes in the tourney.

I think the fun of the last one was largely due to its off-the-cuff nature. Just let people shout out a couple choices each until the picks are full and let 'em fight it out. That made for a more interesting set-up with odd match ups, favorites taking each other out early and a fairly surprising winner. You get this thing too organized and the chances of such happenings get diminished and things get more formulaic.

I'm the one suggesting that we use the charts rather than MY or YOUR personal preferences. I'll give you credit for throwing some things on there that you probably don't like but you're clearly biased towards your own favs too. eg if Bill Frissell is in step with Obner's taste, why is your Bill Frissell thread drawing so little interest?

Also, attn: Simi: Saynard didn't list a single Kenny Chesney album.

Good point, but you're nitpicking just to prove that point. In GENERAL the stuff listed is in step with Obner's taste.

I didn't list Brian Wilson - SMiLE, but I'm sure it'll make it to the tourney

I'm still in favor of that mode.

Really though...whoever feels like taking the time to organize the thing probably should be the one to pick how it goes.

I was going to say favorite movies but I don't think we need to go through the process to have Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind battle Wall-E for the final...

I hope you guys don't mind, I took control of the situation and officially started a thread about it. I just had a feeling this thread would go on and on without any sort of solution.
