My friend turned me on to this artist. Pretty fun music. I searched and could not find any threads about him. Please re-direct if someone already mentioned him. I don't have the album, but I have links to his artist page on his label's site (stonesthrow) and his myspace.

Artist Page: http://www.stonesthrow.com/mayerhawthorne

Myspace page to listen to some tunage: http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fu ... =381811419

"Just Ain't Gonna Work Out" is pretty enjoyable in my opinion.

A quote of some of his influences on his myspace page for a sort of RIYL:

Smokey Robinson, Curtis Mayfield, Martha and the Vandellas, The Notations, The Dramatics, Spinners, Marvelettes, Supremes, Temptations, Four Tops, Mary Wells, The Precisions, Mike Terry, Barry White, Isaac Hayes

Just ain't gonna work out would have made any 2007 mix that I could have made. Awaiting the album. Hopefully a bobby Caldwell sample will make the comparrison inescapable.

I looked up Mayer Hawthorne on allmusic to try and find some other info out and the only listing was a blank page listing him under the "rap" genre. After reading more on him, he apparently was/is a DJ that goes by the name Haircut...which is weird...but I really like the songs I have heard so far.

I've mentioned him several times before, but no onje's listened...

"Just Ain't" was my favorite song of 2008. I'm really excited to see what he comes up with next...

it's pretty great but I can't find anything about it that'll make it an all-time classic. it's just pop enough that i'd be surprised if NPR didn't jump all over it, but it's so cleanly produced (ala Mark Ronson?) that i don't know how much replayability i can see for it. although i do still LOVE Maybe So, Maybe No after 18 months, so i could be real wrong too.
