This is the first part (the group stage) in Obner's efforts to pick the best album released in the 2000s. In the group stage, there will be 64 groups of 5 albums. The top vote-getter in each group will advance to the 64-album tournament.

Please vote for the album that you feel deserves to be in the tournament. The deadline for this group is Monday, July 27 at 1:00PM Eastern Time.

Surprised you guys haven't heard that Strokes album.

Heron King Blues is really good and not to be overlooked. It's not my favorite Califone, though.

Took awhile but I finally came around on Room on Fire. I may just cue this up now for some Friday listening.

Strokes. That Willard Grant is good, though.

Wish the Strokes albums had switched places... would've made my vote easier in both polls...

Even though it's not my favorite album of theirs, Califone gets the nod.

Room on Fire remains my #1 for the decade.

I like Is This It? and First Impressions... more, but Room on Fire is easily the best here.

Per your other post, nor do you want to?

Califone is my choice. Lots of the freak-folk/neo-psychedelic stuff is too precious to me, but Califone is pretty rootst... freak-americana. My guess is you'd like them.

I'm surprised the electronic crowd hasn't riled around the Ellen Allien and Apparat album.

Good lord, not even close. Can't believe the lack of love for Beaches and Canyons. Oh well.
