This is the first part (the group stage) in Obner's efforts to pick the best album released in the 2000s. In the group stage, there will be 64 groups of 5 albums. The top vote-getter in each group will advance to the 64-album tournament.

Please vote for the album that you feel deserves to be in the tournament. The deadline for this group is Tuesday, July 28 at 1:00PM Eastern Time.

Love that Beirut album, but that Yo La Tengo was somewhat my security blanket my first trip to Iraq. I don't know how many nights I spent with my headphones on listening to that, and that being the only thing remotely soothing/comforting for months.

Hmm. Gotta go Spoon here if only for "You Got Yr Cherry Bomb".

Still haven't heard that Walkmen record but have always meant to mostly based on the high regard that billyg has for it.

I'm pretty sure there is a YLT record nominated that I like much more than this one.

I'm really not the biggest Spoon fan on the board, but I like it the best out of this bunch. I used to really love that YLT record, but I very rarely play it now. Too bad.

The Walkmen followed ever so closely by Beirut, Spoon and YLT.

GA indeed. Group of Death. Went Walkmen over Spoon because that's at least my fourth favorite Spoon album.

This is tough, three great ones here. Think I'm gonna go for YLT over Walkmen and Spoon.

Probably another case of point-of-entry bias but I was really disappointed by it. I much prefer A Hundred Miles Off.

Picked The Walkmen over YLT, but it's close.

Can't believe people love that Spoon album so much. I like it, but no.

Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga is by far the best album from this group and one of the best albums this decade!
