Bob Dylan: Highway 61 Revisited

Not always, but sometimes my favorite Bob Dylan album. Like A Rolling Stone is the greatest over-played-to-death song that still slays. Shit like Tombstone Blues and Ballad of A thin Man are simply amazing. Desolation Road is the best over 10 minute song ever. I like to think everyone here has listened to this, but if you haven't just go ahead already. It's not an album you can avoid forever. I'm not at all a fan of the sacred cows in general but this one always works for me.

I can see that as being a dealbreaker for some, but it was definitely part of the attraction for me.

I'm taking that YLT for a spin now.

Goddamn I really like this, even that long tunes at the end. One of them, I can't remember which one has a vaguely Stonish quality to it.

I'm gonna break out the last couple of YLT albums that I've dismissed.

yeah, i am looking forward to checking it out again. just on first listen i think i was more impressed with it over their last couple.

right now though i'm enjoying a califone bender. sometimes i wish it wasn't so easy to find albums on the innernets.

quicksand/cradlesnakes

this is probably blasphemy to califone hardcore fans, but this is starting to sound to me what wilco coulda been had nels been heading the band this whole time.

I got the YLT from Indie Passion, the Ronnie album is in the Box.

The problem with that isn't that I hate to see Califone compared to Wilco or that I think they're necessarily superior to Wilco. It's just that they're very, very different beasts. Califone never comes anywhere near the kind of syrupy pop that Wilco regularly churns out.

And Nels hasn't really changed Wilco very much anyway, IMO. O'Rourke steered them closer to Califone territory than Nels has.
