This is the first part (the group stage) in Obner's efforts to pick the best album released in the 2000s. In the group stage, there will be 64 groups of 5 albums. The top vote-getter in each group will advance to the 64-album tournament.

Please vote for the album that you feel deserves to be in the tournament. The deadline for this group is Wednesday, July 29 at 1:00PM Eastern Time.

iron and wine's best album. antony has a couple good songs, but not a very strong overall album. the rest bite.

Really like everyone one of these except Iron and Wine, and have Antony just barely below the other three. That Books album is arguably the best constructed series of field recordings ever, Espers brooding dark folk, mix of organic/synthesized sounds is damn near perfect, and that Dalek is just bizzarre envelope crushing weirdo goodness (probably the most strange "rap" album I've ever heard). This is the toughest pick thus far for me.

The Books I guess, though it's a damn shame they won't move on.

Voted Antony because I listened to that the most. The Books album is great, and if it was in another bracket, might've made the cut. Sorta new to the I&W game, so it came 3rd.

I&W...even though I only like a few songs.

I tried Antony (sort of)....but I also had a hard time with his voice.
