My cc has an extraordinarily hard Donald Ross course, so the fact that I'm just starting out (I can shoot about 110 on an average public) makes for some absolutely hilarious results. My first round on that course after joining was like 160. I've got it down to about 125-130. It will be interesting to see how my score at a public has changed after this season.

i'm nowhere near an expert on the rules, but i thought you have to max out at doubling par?

Really narrow fairways, at least 2-3 sandtraps every hole, the same stream coming into play on like 7 of the first 9 holes and impossible greens. Makes IB look like minigolf, I'm telling ya.

Actually the max strokes you can take with my handicap is 9 on a par 4 hole. Trust me, I know this intimately.

On my first round, I kept my actual score because I wanted to know how brutal it was gonna be

JESUS.

I don't even want to think about what you had to do to get arrested back then in DAYTONA.

i mean, a 160 is averaging 8.88 (repeating of course) strokes per hole. you have to take advantage of the double par rule regardless of your handicap. its an unwritten rule! like the breakfast ball!

Oh I know, like I said, I just wanted to know what the "real score" was. I took an 11 on one hole and a 12 on another.

I try to get out a couple times a week, and over the past couple years I've seem some improvement in my horrible, inconsistent game. Shot my best round ever last week - an 85! Just call me Ocho Cinco.

Next day I shot a 94 though, so I guess that was my moment of glory for the summer.

Golf is my favorite outdoor activity these days. I only play a few times a summer and average about 100 so I'm no good but find it really relaxing.

I leave Wednesday for my yearly outing in the northern part of southern Michigan (Northern Soul - I think - corrected me on calling it "northern Michigan"). It's beautiful country up there and the courses are amazing. Best weekend of my year every year.

I haven't been playing much lately but I do play and suck mightily.

I also have a very high cost of equipment to skill level ratio.

I'm gonna go ahead and recommend this. Great read. I'm an extreme novice and still enjoyed it when I read it years ago.

Completely. There's something to be said for that era of golf.

I play, though not as much as I would like this summer. My last couple rounds have been my best ever, but they're still around 110 (I started a couple summers ago and never took lessons). There are a couple of surprisingly dece city courses in NYC.

my only experiences with "golf".

my stepdad had a crappy set of clubs upstairs in the attic so while no one was home i took them out in the side yard, set up a tee and of course hit the ball too hard. it went right through the neighbors basement door window and dumbass teenager that i am just ran away and didn't think to go grab the ball.

and i won $1000 on a hole in one on a mini golf course once.

playa.

As for golf, I was on the golf team in 10th grade simply because so few people tried out that everyone made it. Last time I played was Sept or so. Before that it had been years. I can't say I find it that pleasurable. I'd rather just take a walk or something. Plus I'm just a lazy motherfucker. Also golf is rather expensive. I'd rather allocate that money elsewhere.

it was the 7th hole or something. you had to put down a dollar. it went over a curved hill and the hole was off center. my sister and her boyfriend went before me and totally missed and i was just like "fuck it" and hit the ball and it bounced off a side and went in.
