only a small fraction of the vehicles i've driven for work or personal use in the history of my driving record have been automatic

there is something "neat" and "cool" and "masculine" about it, sure

plus, being good at it opens up a whole world of freight-hauling career choices

I took my driver's test at 16 in a manual transmission. I don't have one now though, because I really don't give a shit about cars, much less how they work.

my subaru is manual, and i'm not even sure they make an automatic for the wrx anyways.

my wife's toyota is an automatic, and i'm not sure they make a manual for the sequoia anyways.

manual kicks ass for mountain driving. but the sequoia is such a beast that it doesn't skip a beat going up the passes.

I drove a manual for about 6 years until it died. Currently drive an automatic. Manual is definitely more fun and I do miss it, but I also really hated traffic in a manual.

I tell ya, when my 4-Runner was alive, I loved driving the shit out of it while in the desert and mountains. Bouncing and shifting around in that 4x4 was some of the best time spent behind a wheel.

I miss that truck...*wiping tear*

You sadly underestimated your kingdom.

Now let's discuss the toasters I brought up.

first car i owned was a manual. kind of taught myself after a few mistakes.

since then it's been auto, manual, auto, manual, auto.

prefer to drive an auto since it's mostly city driving i do.

More people around here drive manuals over automatics, but I think it's starting to even out.

My mother always had automatics and my father switched from manual to an automatic before I learned to drive, so I've never learned on a manual. A friend tried to teach me once, but she got bored after about 10 minutes and we never tried again.

I live in third world USA and drive an automatic. I learned on a manual, but why the fuck would you want that?

Fuckall.

I prefer it for a number of reasons, but the main reason is with a stick you actually have to THINK about driving while you drive. Traffic would move a lot smoother with a lot less accidents if even 3/4 of the brain-dead dumbfucks on the road would just PAY ATTENTION to the fact that they're driving a car. I know a stick will cut into your texting time, but, for one trip at a time, why not just try thinking about something outside of your precious self?

agree, so does the wife for the same reasons

I learned on a stick shift and drove them exclusively until I moved to Chicago and had to deal with stop and go traffic for an hour and a half each day. Got an automatic around then and haven't looked back since. Never understood it until then.

If I had a sports car, it'd be a manual.

While I've read/heard about folks in wheelchairs with hand controls who have had manual transmission hand controls installed, I can't see any case where it's sensible or worth it.

Between one left-side stick for gas and brake (which always requires a hand in play) and a hand clutch and hand shifter, that's too much time with no hands on the goddamn steering wheel.

No thanks. You people and your legs.
