This is the first part (the group stage) in Obner's efforts to pick the best album released in the 2000s. In the group stage, there will be 64 groups of 5 albums. The top vote-getter in each group will advance to the 64-album tournament.

Please vote for the album that you feel deserves to be in the tournament. The deadline for this group is Tuesday, August 4 at 1:00PM Eastern Time.

Going with The Shins. I do like that Destroyer album...and used to really like Heartbreaker, but it has faded over time.

Liars, I guess. That's probably my least favorite album of theirs.

It changed my life.

Tough Grouping, I went Wolf Parade. I've never been a Ryan Adams fan and I don't really like The Shins. Destroyer came close to getting my vote.

Hmm, I guess Wolf Parade (surprised to see it's doing so well given the whole wolf thing). I like most of these though.

This is an insanely tough bracket.

That being said, Heartbreaker is one of my favorite albums EVER, and possibly my favorite of the 00's. I mean, the man has done some not-so-good albums, but Heartbreaker doesn't take a song off.

I really have an unnatural affection for that record. It will rank very high on my personal favourites of the decade.

Yeah - 4 out of the 5 artists here (and 3 of these albums) would probably be in my top 25 for the 00's.

But, I mean, it's Heartbreaker.

Heartbreaker.

Pretty sure this is the first one of these that I own and like/love all 5 albums.

Love Rubies the most.

I would love to see this Shins album vs. Kid A in the finals. Just give me a chance to make Thom's other eye lazy. Just a chance.

Easily greatest pop album of the decade, whether it wins or not.
