i tend to agree with estone in a way. i don't see it as being particularly better or worse than their other stuff. however, there are a couple of tracks that have to be skipped to make that statement true. ok, maybe I'm making the point for the other side.

I think Bloc Party might have had a decent run in another group.

I really tried with it and found it a tedious and boring listen. I may not be that big a fan of any Wilco anymore, but that's still the only Wilco album I can say that about. Its by far my least favorite album in their catalog.

Not to the degree of AGIB. Bloor is right about that - the difference between the album and later live performances is really big. Less so with other of their albums.

Wow you think AGIB is tedious and boring but like SBS?

Re-listened to AGIB recently and it has aged better with me, but originally it took a lot of road trip listens as well as seeing them live on that tour before I began to really like any songs.

I went Kid A this round though.

AGIB has been one of the better-aging Wilco albums for me.

I'm listening to AGIB for the first time in a long time. I've said it before and I'll say it again, that recency effects can potentially hamper one's appreciation for an album while subsequently colouring your memory of it. I still combat this idea that AGIB is noisy & experimental because of "Less Than You Think", which is obviously ludicrous, but it's track 11 of 12 and it's 15 min long. It stays with you implicitly, when the rest of the album is as straightforward as any of their other contemporary post-alt-country albums.

I'll admit to fully drinking the Kool-aid on Kid A when it first came out. I remember the scramble of people to get their hands on that album and to make sense of it all was like something I hadn't seen in a while at the time.

I really liked it at the time but I haven't had a deisre to listen to it in years.

I actually think conceptually it's still pretty interesting and I think it succeeds in it's execution. But, in the end, I just think that a lot of the songs on there are just weak IMO.

I went with Bloc Party here much to my surprise. Still like the frenetic vibe of that record even when the scope of the songs is a bit out of their reach. The slow burn of "Compliments" still sounds great to me.

Yeah plenty of Wilco (and Dead and Phish) songs work better as studio songs, shit, check out the "Can't Stand It" from that Red Rocks show: total clunker.

To be fair though, I did actually vote for AGIB here and agree that it has aged fairly well simply based on the strength of the core songs. I don't really have much use for the longer chicanery.

Also, SBS is the real clunker of the Wilco catalog. Aside from Impossible Germany and maybe What Light I'd be fine to never hear any of it again. Dreadful.
