This is the first part (the group stage) in Obner's efforts to pick the best album released in the 2000s. In the group stage, there will be 64 groups of 5 albums. The top vote-getter in each group will advance to the 64-album tournament.

Please vote for the album that you feel deserves to be in the tournament. The deadline for this group is Wednesday, August 5 at 1:00PM Eastern Time.

Les Savy Fav in a tough grouping. I really like MMJ and both Godspeed and Grandaddy are good albums too.

Pretty good group. Between GYBE and LSF, but I gotta go with the LSF. One of the best bands out there right now and arguably their best set of songs.

MMJ. That GYBE album just seems pretentious to me now

Looks like MMJ will win. I'm fine with that, but I've given GYBE, Grandaddy and MMJ all equal listening time over the years.

Let's Stay Friends is a better LSF "album" than Inches, which we all know is a collection of singles, and there are a few clunkers in there.

Maybe. Let's Stay Friends is definitely more consistent, but Inches has higher highs, IMO.

Although, I dunno. "The Equestrian" may be my favorite song of theirs.

"The Lowest Bitter" is my jam. Was "Let's Stay Friends" even nominated?

In most brackets, GYBE or LSV would've won this for me but that MMJ is the only vote here.

Such a great record that, strangely, appealed to quite a few different audiences. Jam band crowds, indie rock crowds, country crowds, etc.

Just solid songwriting and peformances. Allmusic rates Z the highest of their albums I think at 4.5 stars and It Still Moves with only 3. I couldn't disagree with that more.
