This is the first part (the group stage) in Obner's efforts to pick the best album released in the 2000s. In the group stage, there will be 64 groups of 5 albums. The top vote-getter in each group will advance to the 64-album tournament.

Please vote for the album that you feel deserves to be in the tournament. The deadline for this group is Wednesday, August 5 at 1:00PM Eastern Time.

Its between Cat Power and Solomon Burke for me. Neither are my favs by them. I'll see if either has a chance in hell before deciding which to vote for.

Bon Iver. I actually still listen to Neon Bible, or parts of it, but not enough to contend.

Not a big Arcade Fire fan but, despite ignoring Neon Bible for the first 6 or so months it came out, I finally got used to it and generally recognize it as being superior to Funeral.

So, as of now, prep-school rockers are bettering depressed son of (upper) middle class, with parentheses about 'upper' since I don't know the calibre of Justin's dad's cabin. This shouldn't upset me as much as it does, but I am upset. I mean, for Christ's sake, the AF singer is named WINSTON. Or WINFIELD.

I cannot wait 'til you're all salivating over a rock-band fronted by a Percival, that said. Will say exactly where you reg-rockers really are.

Why would we care about the singer's name again? I say we, in the collective sense, in that I split my cognitive and affective loyalties to whomever I can gleen the slightest bit of reinforcement from at that particular point in time, which in this case is probably my sub-alterego/board personality (REMEMBER REGGIE?????) who truly and desperately identifies with Haitian-Canadians including our beloved and TRUE leader of the North Strong and FREE.

WINFIELD isn't a Canadian, though. He's from Houston. Prolly oil money. Went to Exeter.

If anything, that makes him anti-Canadian. At least, Eastern Canada. I'm sure there's a number of sons of petrolege in the Prairie Provinces.

Obviously he's from Texas. What kind ignoramus would I be to have missed that particular nugget when they were all over Radio3. Régine is of course a Lévesque native, and the other non-Texans are from ONTERRIBLE. I'm sure the oilmen have converted to our way of thinking by this point. Je me souviens

I would've voted for Cat Power but had to put in a vote AGAINST the meh-tacularness of that Bon Iver record, and went AF. I really tried with that thing but I just don't hear it. Pleasant enough I guess but I'm not hearing the genius.
