This was inevitable.

[quote]We may still be smack dab in the middle of summer, but word has surfaced that the poet laureate of rock himself, Bob Dylan, is busy working away on an upcoming Christmas album.

According to Bullypulpit.com, at least four songs have been already recorded for the as-yet-untitled yuletide offering, including “Must Be Santa,â€

This sounds absolutely godawful.
The world doesn't need ANY new Christmas albums, let alone one full of (mostly) Christmas standards sung by Bob Dylan.

BS Todd. If Yo La Tengo announced they were doing a Christmas album you'd be first in line to get it.

I dunno. Seems like 2009 Dylan could pull it off. His latest offerings with soft pianos, brushed snares, and gentle shuffles seem perfectly suited to something like this.

At the very least it'll be better than throwing on "Simply Having A Wonderful Christmas Time" for the 100th time.

Not true.
Although instead of running away in terror, I would probably just stand in-place and slowly, sadly shake my head.

Of course, nothing Yo La would do could surprise me. They're just that kind of animal.

There's so many shitty christmas albums but the ones I like are fine. The more people try making one, I figure the odds are another decent one will make it. I'm interested to see how Dylan's comes out. And, I'll admit the godawful possibilities are here, but still interested.

I've read you say this before. Is it the commercial use of it or the holiday cheer you hate?

I think Christmas music should start and end with the Yobs.

If Dylan covers Browne's "The Rebel Jesus" the cd will be worth getting even if the rest is wtf.

If he records the Christmas Shoes song his entire catalog gets deleted.

I'll cut him some slack: I mostly hate Christmas and Christmas music and I actually get presents.

Just wait for the Zimmer's take on "Grown-Up Christmas List".

(Though I'd love to see Bob take on "The Bell That Couldn't Jingle")

How would that surpass the Elmo & Patsy original?

Anyway, with the Tex-Mex bent of the recent Dylan, I would suggest "Dear Senor Santa Claus..." to cover, instead.

Hell, he might as well cover

"Dominick The Italian Christmas Donkey"

and "Chrissie The Christmas Mouse" as well

Jews hate Christmas. It undermines their purpose.

Bobby's one o' them Jesusy Jewies. Shifts from Yahweh to Christ to Agnosticism time and again through his life.
