I pre-ordered this over the weekend. I'm hoping the 3 years off brought some good shit.

Also, picked this up and will be spinning it all day:

Eccentric Soul: The Outskirts of Deep City

This is a 2 LP or 2 CD collection from the vaults of Deep City Records in Miami, a fairly obscure label. Numero Records has been doing some serious digging and has released a bunch of different compilation s from obscure soul labels across the country. Not sure how many they have out there, but I saw at least a dozen collections at a record store this weekend. This is the first I'm listening to and it is absolutely wonderful. I'd list some artist names, but it probably wouldn't make much difference. The styles are pretty far flung with syrupy ballads and horn driven funky stuff taking turns. Just know if you are into uncovering a slew of old soul gems, these Numero Records collections are well worth checking out.

I don't think you'll be disappointed. It's a real Saturday afternoon record.

Tom Waits: Swordfishtrombones

This one is like an old friend I can in no way be objective about. For me, the best thing a great musician ever did. I've got sentimental attachments to this thing as well as an admiration for it musically. For those who like his earlier stuff best, this one may be trouble as it really did signal the start of his getting weird. For someone like me who enjoys a wide range of his stuff, this one hits the sweet spot right down the middle.

I actually like it as a companion album to The XX.
