Telemundo got the rights to the game and pretty much wanted to fuck american viewers by showing it on their digital tier network.

The ESPN commentary for the game makes it sound like an absolute farce of classless fouls, stalling and poor officiating. I guess that is what you expect for a rivalry game being played in a 3rd World Country.

Mexico was clearly the better team today... and it probably should have been 3-1.... And actually US-Mex games at Azteca are pretty much the same as US-Mex games in Boston, Chicago, or the Rose Bowl.

Dos - Uno. And now wait for all the "dirty players" and "poor calls" and most especially, "affected by altitude." US played great, they are my team, and I will live and die with them next year in the WC, but Mexico played better today.

I've yet to see riot police utilizing shields to protect foreign players while trying take a corner...in a US stadium.

Ref's were nothing shocking, decent really. I didn't see any calls you could really say made a difference. US played poorly for the most part. Someone forgot to tell anyone to pass the ball to Donovan. Davies was the only dangerous looking guy out there and had a nice goal. Our midfield was over run all game long. Mexico was better in approach than finishing, as usual. I'm not at all going to like watching Dos Santos and Vela playing against the US for the next decade or more. Still thought the US had a good chance to hold on for the tie. But yeah, 2-1.

Dude, all those "civilized fans" at Soldier Field and the Rose Bowl... are Mexicans rooting for Mexico.

I agree with this assessment. Nothing too glaring.

I think this, more than anything, is as indicative of an issue between hispanics and "caucasian" Americans as anything.

I may come off as simple minded here, but, I think this rubs ol' whitey the wrong way SOOO much.

Actually, I think a GREAT US squad that beats the Mexicans regularly would go a long way towards unity in this country.

Actually, they've done that for about the last decade, on US soil at least. The 5-1 shellacking of the US B/C team in East Rutherford was the first Mexican win here since '99 or '01.

Also, when it most counted, in KoreaJapan02, first elimination game of the WC (round of sixteen), it was USA2-Mexico1.

So, yeah, you were prolly on a drunkening or something, then, Mr Derris, but it has happened. On the regular.

Well, precisely.

What is the historical record concerning fan fatalities in organized baseball in the twentieth century? How many fans have died, and in what ways? Is the ball itself the only potential danger, or are other factors at play? This study explores these issues and discusses some of the safety improvements that have been instituted as a result. (2)

The authors confirmed at least thirty-five fatalities since 1900 in Major and Minor League ballparks. Interestingly only five are ball related, and only two of these are from being struck by a foul ball (table 1). The remaining thirty deaths are due to either fan behavior (table 2) or stadium infrastructure (table 3).

Fans falling to their death because they're drunk doesn't have much to do with players being hit by bottles and batteries during a match. I don't see the correlation.

I will say the outrage over the Cub fan incident and the eventual arrest of the person who did says a lot about the US mentality towards that sort of behavior. During the soccer match it wasn't a big deal (in Europe it wouldn't have been a big deal either - In England they've quite a few cases of lifetime bans for that behavior though).

With our two wins this week including tonights match against Trinidad and Tobago, the USMNT is now sitting in 1st place of the CONCACAF region. They can clinch a WC qualifying bid with a win over Honduras in their next match.
