Just saw this

Quote:
WHITE PLAINS, NY - Les Paul, the guitarist and inventor who changed the course of music with the electric guitar and multitrack recording and had a string of hits, many with wife Mary Ford, has died.

According to Gibson Guitar, Paul died of complications from pneumonia at White Plains Hospital Thursday.

His family and friends were by his side.

As an inventor, Paul helped bring about the rise of rock 'n' roll and multitrack recording, which enables artists to record different instruments at different times, sing harmony with themselves and then carefully balance the "tracks" in the finished recording.

That's a good run. He saw the evolution of a century's worth of popular music. And stayed cool.

Made it 94 years and single-handedly changed the course of music on his way.

A good run indeed.

Wow, sorry to say but I thought he had already passed away.

RIP, Les Paul. I do believe I have a couple of old vinyl albums laying around the house.

Stan Lee plans on doing a Les Paul and staying current as long as possible.

I've got a few old Les Paul records and some Les Paul and Mary Ford records. I like lots off of them, but other bits not so much. Makes me think there is a great compilation out there somewhere. Anyone have any good suggestions, I'd love to hear 'em.

RIP.

Was he still playing his weekly gigs in NYC, or had those ended?

Edit:
And how could you not like this guy?

He was playing them thru at least age 88... & he did an event in Milwaukee -- I think for the opening of the Les Paul Museum, or re-opening, maybe -- three years ago, at 91. So, he was playing out at least a little into his tenth decade.

I love the story about him breaking his picking arm in the 50's (?) and having the cast set at a right angle so he could still play.
