Anyone going to see it this weekend? I know nothing about the movie except that there's aliens, a spaceship, and a landing in Johannesburg.



I'm always up for some good sci-fi.

i'm trying like hell to not know anything about it before I see it.

The trailer piqued my interest and it's getting great reviews but I'm still a little wary of it.

The director made his bones as a 3D animator and has only directed short films thus far. Peter Jackson as producer can help him or hurt him depending on how you feel about PJ.

My fear is that it will come off, to me, as a glorified video game flick despite all reports of it being pretty solid.

Love the concept, love the trailer, and love the short film the movie was based off of. I'll definitely see this in the theater... hope it lives up.

Well, I don't expect it to live up. I just hope it won't be totally disappointing.

I knew nothing about it going in and thought it was great. I loved the movie. It's not an award winner or anything, but I thought the film was wonderful.

I thought it was very good. I had very high expectations and I wasn't diappointed.

i went to a screening for this with a director q&a afterward and there were numerous questions about a potential video game. i kept thinking, "you just watched a really good movie that's basically a metaphor for apartheid and all you can think of to ask this dude is about a video game?!"

This movie came off the canned attempt to make a Halo movie that Peter Jackson was supposed to direct, I believe. So, I think the game question is sort of silly since the concept of the film was derived from Halo already.

Well, Jackson had slated Neill Blomkamp to direct Halo. When Halo fell through (good riddance), Jackson looked to a short film Blomkamp had directed and they decided to make it into a full length feature. Thus District 9 was born. It wasn't (as far as I understand) derrived from Halo... its simply rose from the ashes.

Fair enough, but you know, them aliens look a lot like Halo. But you're right, I didn't mean to say it was supposed to be a direct adaptation of the game itself, but simply that making a game off of District 9 may be a little redundant.

This movie was awesome. I was really surprised at who winded up being the main character, and how his story developed. The whole thing is surprisingly substantial for a movie that is basically a videogame (there is even a gravity gun).

My dad let me watch Terminator when I was 7...and took me to see Predator when I was like 10 -- look how I turned out.

Haha, some of my students are musicians in that movie. They got paid well, i hope they make some kind of residual money.

when i was leaving the theatre, i heard some chick saying it wasn't nearly as good as transformers.

I just hope Dalen doesn't leave any residue in the theatre from watching Vanessa Hudgens for two hours.

I got stuck at the wrong end of a table at a dinner party a few months back where the topic of conversation turned to how, "Transformers is one of those movies that you really have to see two or three times to fully appreciate, because the story is so complex."

I've never wished for a bomb threat or a fire alarm more seriously in my life.

we left the young one at home (with grandpa & Séb), and went to see this. Thought it was really great.

I liked D9 but not as much as I was hoping. It certainly took a lot of risks e.g. making the protagonist so unlikeable.
