I'm semi-interested in how their albums list shapes up but that best tracks list is kind of ridiculous. I got through about 10 songs before quitting.

It could just as easily be random list of singles from the decade. I mean how does one even argue for the 427th best track of the decade?

Yeah, that's silly. This is just like one track from every band they've liked over the past 10 years.

I'm not interested in this at all until they get to the albums, and even then, it's just another Pitchfork list.

My money is on Kid A as #1 and some opus about it setting the tone for the decade to come....

I think Bruce, Animal Collective, or the Strokes could sneak in there, instead.

I'd love something out of left-field like Badly Drawn Boy's debut, though. Not that the album was out of left-field, just that it went from ballyhoo'd to so much wasted promise in about 18 months (when Have you fed the fish? released).

Still love Bewilderbeast, though.

Bruce? Dude, I even I wouldn't suggest that.

Which Bruce? No way is Springsteen anywhere near the top of this PF list.

Main contenders:

Kid A
Interpol - TOTBL
Arcade Fire - Funeral
Wilco - YHF
Sufjan - Illinoise
Panda Bear - Person Pitch

Outside shots:

Animal Collective - Sung Tongs or MPP
Microphones - Glow Pt. 2
TVOTR - Return to Cookie Mtn
The Knife - Silent Shout
Fleet Foxes
The Rapture
The Strokes - Is This It?
LCD Soundsystem - Sound of Silver
M.I.A. - Arular
Broken Social Scene - YFIIP
White Stripes - WBC

Just based on their previous year-end lists, and some things that might have grown in their esteem based on what came afterwards.

I'm not saying I would, either... Just to think that Radiohead is the darling of darlings is a bit simplistic. Especially if you grab an album from the (arguable) start of the decade -- y'know, since there was no year zero, so the millenium didn't start 'til 2001 -- when we all know Pitchfork is more now than ESPN. Had Derris said I/n RaiNboWs, I would have been more liable to agree. As it is, I really don't think it's going to be Kid A. Definitely not in a walk, if it is, either.

Maybe but do you think they'll just dismiss an entire decades worth of slobbering over them and not put one, if not two of their albums, at the top?

Also, remember the uproar over them putting The Rapture at #1 for one of those years? Wonder if they'll back off that one.

It does make more sense than any of Drinky's suggestions, outside of Arcade Fire... & Thom's definitely going to place in the top 20, prolly three albums -- Kid A, Thief, r*ai/nBowS -- but where in the top 20 I wouldn't say. Thief will prolly pull about 18, \Rai$BOwxs ten or twelve, Kid A among the top ten, but I think one of the 'inspired by Radiohead's experimentalism' bands will finish ahead.

Won't be Panda Bear -- no matter how much I love that album -- though. That at no. 1 would provoke an even bigger backlash than Rapture winning in '05 or '06.

I guess it's to your credit that you don't know Pitchfork that well.

I have to say, I don't fully understand the disdain for Pitchfork around here. In looking at the winners (so far) from the Obner best of 2000s poll, there doesn't appear to be too much difference from what most here seem to like, and most of what I would consider Pitchfork darling albums. If anything, they seem to strike a bit of a balance between things that are running away with this little tournament (Hold Steady, Spoon), and some of the safer, but still a little left albums that at least had a good showing and/or stimulated some decent conversation in the Obner threads (Liars, The Knife, Animal Collective).

It's not as much what they say as the way they say it that gets people riled up.

Was it the Hives review when PF jumped for Obner?
