Source: Favre, Vikes to discuss playing

Minnesota Vikings head coach Brad Childress and quarterback Brett Favre plan to meet at an undisclosed location later this week to discuss the possibility of the former Packers and Jets quarterback renouncing his retirement from the NFL to play the 2009 season with the Vikings, according to a source with direct knowledge of discussions between the two parties.

There is a mutual understanding that sometime soon thereafter Favre will decide whether to sign with the Vikings. The team would expect him to participate fully in offseason minicamps and training camps, which he missed last year with the Jets.

Favre has not been working out and declined to have surgery to repair the torn biceps tendon that plagued him the final month of last season.

Favre may believe the injury can heal on its own as did a similar problem with his left shoulder while he played in Green Bay. A source close to Favre told ESPN's Chris Mortensen that how the injury heals will play a role in the quarterback's decision.

The source also said that the quarterback's agent, Bus Cook, is researching unemployed NFL quarterback coaches to see if one can be hired to work with Favre in Mississippi while he ponders a possible return.

Favre wanted to play for the Vikings last season, but the Packers specifically eliminated their NFC North rivals as a potential destination for the Green Bay icon.

While Favre had been emphatic about not returning next season, he never anticipated the Jets would release him after drafting Mark Sanchez in the first round and could see the Vikings as the opportunity to fulfill the goal he was deprived of last season -- winning a Super Bowl.

Vikings head coach Brad Childress discusses Brett Favre and the health of rookie Percy Harvin.

Favre admitted to ESPN that he was motivated to play in 2008 largely because of his resentment toward Packers general manager Ted Thompson.

The Vikings had planned to have Tarvaris Jackson and Sage Rosenfels compete for the starting quarterback position in training camp. With Jackson battling injuries last season, journeyman Gus Frerotte started 11 games and led the Vikes in passing.

Minnesota finished 10-6 to capture the NFC North but lost to the Eagles in the first round of the playoffs in a game started by Jackson.

Ed Werder covers the NFL for ESPN. Chris Mortensen is a senior NFL analyst for ESPN.

Are we really going to go through this every single year?!

I fully welcome the prospect of Favre meeting the Bears' improved defense this year.

Re-watch the Visanthe Shiancoe "locker-room dong" footage, & look for Childress's reaction. He was fixed on that thing... Meaning, Brad (same as, supposedly, an theatre student of same name at my college) likes all types.

Source: Favre Expected To Sign With Vikings Today

Reporting
Mark Rosen
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) ―

Quote:
A high-level source with the Minnesota Vikings tells WCCO-TV's Mark Rosen that quarterback Brett Favre is expected to sign with the team Tuesday.

Favre is on currently on his way to Minneapolis and is expected to sign with the team this afternoon, the source said.

WCCO-TV spoke with an official at the Hattiesburg, Miss., airport, who saw an airplane with the Vikings logo leave the airport Tuesday morning. The flight number for that plane has been blocked from tracking systems.

Speculation that Favre would be joining the Vikings roster abruptly ended in late July when head coach Brad Childress said the quarterback would remain in retirement.

On July 28, Childress said that he received a phone call from Favre and announced the quarterback would remain retired, though now it appears that declaration was perhaps a bit premature.

Favre spent 16 years with the Green Bay Packers before playing for a year with the New York Jets. His first team was the Atlanta Falcons, where he played two games his first year. In 18 seasons, he has 464 touchdowns, more than 65,000 passing yards and a quarterback rating of 85.4. He's also thrown 310 interceptions in his career.

Favre originally retired from the Green Bay Packers on March 4, 2008.

That same July, he sought release from his contract so that he could play for another team and the Packers accused the Vikings of tampering by talking to Favre. Though they did talk, the Vikings were ultimately cleared of the tampering charge.

Favre then reported to Packers training camp, but was traded to the New York Jets in August.

Favre was released by the New York Jets earlier in May, clearing the way for him to sign with any team willing to take him. Talks between Favre and the Vikings about him joining that team began almost immediately.

Speculation flew as doctors examined Favre's injured biceps tendon, which hampered Favre down the stretch the previous season.

Favre was born Oct. 10, 1969 in Gulfport, Miss. He will turn 40 during this football season.

I can't say I'm surprised...I just................. :splode:

The flight number was blocked from tracking system(s) due to fear of irksome sports fans taking it out with an RPG or other device.

What a shithead.

Nothing against any Vikings fans but I hope this all goes down in flames and he ends his career with 4 TD's, 9 picks, and being replaced by Tavaris Jackson in game 5.

I'll have to call Busty and Bustette to see if I'm reading this right, because I know fuckall and they bleed Packer Green and Gold, but it sure does seem like he's wadding up his reputation and wiping his ass with it.

More likely, what will happen is Adrian Peterson will suffer a Bo Jackson type injury -- I mean, it has to be coming up the pike, anyway, considering All-Day is made from the same material as Chicago Cub Rich Harden -- & Favre will take the team on his back... to 8-8. 22 touchdowns, 25 interceptions. & given that, he'll think he can "come back", again, & jerk us around some more.

I suppose, being a Georgia fan, you can at least take solace in Percy Harvin (Chomp! Chomp!) having to suffer this, after being with Tebowner & Urban for three years. Finally, pay-back.
