As a Packer fan, my last ounce of respect for Favre is now gone. Legacy ruined.

Also, I like football less as a whole. I don't think I've ever been less excited for an NFL season than I am this one.

How does one answer that question?

Its rhetorical so "not at all" is ok.

I will say this: If he had been traded to anywhere even a little bit less boring than GB, he'd be dead, because allegedly he was one fucked up individual during his time in Atlanta.

Make sure you tell Andyfest he's not allowed to be disappointed either.

Ok, I will:

Andyfest, stop acting like a fucking eleven year old and realize that professional sports are a business and that professional athletes are business people.

That work?

Already had 2 people in my office this morning to ask how I'm taking the news. I keep telling them I don't watch NFL football, but it doesn't stick.

I'm not going to go this far.

I will say I'm disappointed in the way Favre has handled the end of his career. It would have been nice to close the book after a good season with the Packers, but no. I don't blame the Packers for deciding on Rogers after Favre retired...he RETIRED, and then a few months later he thinks he can just say oh, yeah...I wasn't serious, take me back...can I skip mini-camp too, and just have all the glory? And now all this nonsense...I get the fact that he just wants to play football but make up your fucking mind, you fucking diva...

I'm actually really looking forward to the season though, it just got a hell of a lot more interesting in the NFC North as far as I'm concerned.

Could he not have worn something else to the press conference?

Dude looked like he just got off his riding lawnmower after mowing the backyard.

Way to present yourself to the world.

This is the same guy who wears his number on a t-shirt while playing ball in the yard.

for who? Favre and the Vikings?, cause that would be a good thing as far as most Packer fans see things.

It's all part of the Favre "brand".

I get that. Until a couple years ago I just (stupidly) thought Favre was one of the few above the business part of the sport. If it were any team other than the Vikings or the Bears I wouldn't care.

isn't being irrationally upset part of the fun of sports?

Totally. I hate the guy who is like "I just enjoy the competition and like being entertained".

Fuck you. Get off the fence and pick a side and get nuts.

If you just want entertainment go watch the WWF.

This is also what drives me nuts about Sportstalk. Most of them argue in a way that they're never wrong because they talk so much about this stuff that they disengage. When it's the uber-fanatic that keeps them in business.

World Wildlife Fund? Now that's what I call entertainment. ;-)

Seriously though, there isn't anything wrong with professional wrestling. It be fun.

Yeah I just don't think Favre is very good anymore (also for the record, I think he's pretty overrated anyway--sorry Packer fan) and its not like his performance with the Jets last year did anything to change my mind. The only thing he has going for him is Adrian Peterson and a pretty good surrounding cast. But they won't keep him from making stupid mental errors and throwing picks.

He's fallen off since the late 90's obviously but, he was pretty amazing for that 3 year period when he was the MVP. I still contend he's a top 5 QB of all time...

Yeah I think he's probably a little closer to the 10-12 range but listen, if I was a Packer fan, I'd rate him that high too. No disrespect meant and I hope none taken.

He had Leon Washington & Thomas Jones last year. Especially considering the first, I think you have to give even less weight to a Vikings Super Bowl run than you prolly already were.

Despite being a life-long packer fan I've tried to keep quiet about the entire Favre saga over that last two+ years, partly because I was just sick of hearing about it, partly because I wasn't sure how I felt. I think I've figured it out though.

I think Favre coming back to the Vikings is wonderful.

Listen, I loved to watch Favre as a packer, despite his occasional meltdowns and ridiculously bad interceptions. For every terrible INT there were three incredible, "he did what?" throws that kept us all amazed. He kept me interested and excited, like any superstar athlete should. Yes, each off-season was a will-he-won't-he-retire drama that I could have done without... but if football is your primary concern in July, you really need to get outside more. The most vitriolic, rabid fans are those who have the fewest options - the poorly educated, poorly traveled invest way too much of themselves in their chosen team's wins and losses. There are obviously a lot of Packer fans who fit this description. I've heard so much bitching about Favre's tarnished legacy, his treachery, his ego. The truth is, the Packers let him go. If Green bay had caved to his demands, he'd still be the Packers starting QB, and Rodgers would be playing somewhere else this year. I personally think they made the right decision backing Rodgers, but I wish Favre no ill-will. If he can make some other team dance to his childish off-season tune, then good for him.

Football is a game. A childish game, really. Yet we are surprised when pampered, millioniare athletes act spoiled. Get over it. We watch football, ultimately, to be entertained. And Favre wearing Purple in Lambeau is going to be the event of the year. I can't wait.

He partied and screwed everything in town with Chumura his first 5 or so years in GB. Family in GB used to see him out quite a bit.
