U2 explain Spider-Man 'opera'

http://news.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/hi/music/newsid_10000000/newsid_10001000/10001079.stm

Bono and The Edge have described their forthcoming Spider-Man musical as "dizzy" and "not a straight take on the myth".

Turn Off The Dark, the production the Dublin band has written music and lyrics for, is set to open on Broadway in New York in 2010.

They also confirmed American actress Evan Rachel Wood would play the part of MJ and revealed more about the other characters.

Speaking to Radio 1's Edith Bowman, Bono said: "We've got a new villain, it's a girl. It's a very extraordinary role. We've taken it to a much more dizzy place than you'd expect. We've got big tunes. We're very proud of it."

Bono explained the characters won't be the same which appeared in comic or the film adaptations of the original Marvel comic series.

"Our Peter Parker is much more…not Kurt Cobain, but a kind of slacker, a more kind of shy sort of guy," said Bono.

Quote:
It touches on opera, it touches on rock 'n' roll. There are some real character driven songs as well, very unusual song types for us

Don't know if it has been mentioned here but they already have a sort of "companion" record for NLOTH coming out early next year, kind of like Zooropa was supposed to be for Achtung Baby. Considering how inferior Zooropa was to Achtung Baby, and how meh I am about NLOTH, I can't say the anticipation level is real high for me.

this might all just be a smokescreen to justify some new pair of dumb sunglasses for Bono.

isn't Peter Parker supposed to be shy?

while I appreciate your bringing this up several times now, I really don't think anyone cares. I like Dave well enough, but making him laugh isn't really on my big list of shit to do. If doesn't think I'm funny, good for him, it's mutual. But I'm not going to waste my time making a thing out of it, and I really don't understand why you would want to.

I think cotton brings the pain occasionally but we don't share the same sensibilities when it comes to humor. He usually trucks in the absurd, whereas I enjoy a more reality based observational humor, that at it's basest level could be called racist, homophobic, misogynistic, and even prurient.

His Bono comment got a hearty chuckle out of me.

Monty likes it when people fight, which is why 1/3 of his posts are him pointing it out when he thinks people ought to be fighting.

Back on topic, what in the living fuck?

I had a moment last week where that newest U2 album came up on random, and I got 2 minutes into a song and skipped it, then realized I had done exactly this same thing probably 15 or 20 times since I downloaded it. "Why am I keeping this?" [select all, delete]
