I've bought one new release in the last two months.

Could be my last year in the front rank of popular culture before I retire and join the pipe and slippers brigade.

Top 3 of 2009 so far

1. White Denim 'Fit'
2. Franz Ferdinand 'Tonight: Franz Ferdinand'
3. 1990s 'Kicks'

I just heard the new Joe Pernice album last night, and it's definitely going to rank highly on my list. Brendan Benson is also good, but not as fantastic as the Pernice album.

Wow, that's the first mention of the Black Moth Super Rainbow album I've noticed on Obner. One of my favorites of the year. Good job OPA!.

not feeling this one either? after my initial HUGE dissapointment, it has grown a little...but still not very impressed. it definitely picks up towards the end, but by that point it's too little too late.

There are a couple of good songs. But, yeah, I'm pretty disappointed. I dunno if I'll even bother with his next MEC album, but I guess if he puts out any more "solo" albums, I'll give him another chance.

And really, I like everything above 45 on my list to some degree.

have you ever checked out j. tillman? not really sure if he'd be your thing or not, but you never know. for me, he really reminds of molina's better work.

I have not. What's a good starting point?

for more of the sparse, dark solo-molina like stuff check out either minor works or cancer and delerium. his two albums from this year -- vacilando territory blues and a year in the kingom -- he's kinda fleshed out his sound a bit -- still really good though. i can up any or all of these this weekend if you'd like.

Either of those first two you mentioned would be cool. Just one of them would be fine. Thanks!

he joined the band as their touring drummer last year. don't hold that against him though. he had already recorded 5 of his 6 albums.
