There isn't one fucking good show on the Food Network anymore. Even Iron Chef America bugs me.

I'm a fan of Fieri's show. He's obviously trying too hard to be cool, but he seeks out some off th beaten path places and he highlights people doing it fucking right, regardless of if they are in an old cafeteria or a gas station.

Man vs. Food is OK but that dude and the fail dozer Andrew Zimmern got their tolerance for weird food by eating each other's feces.

And I still really like Iron Chef America, if only because it's sunday night timeslot puts me right to sleep.

Yeah, it puts me down like a baby bottle on Saturday nights so there is that. Alton Brown is a ghoul though.

They tried to offer him a deal wherein he would get a meal along with the judges....but he prefers to eat from "Toilet Stadium" - his specially built bathroom buffet.

Jesus, the dude from Eno got the seed money from his parents' winnings at 'Gammons in the early 80s.

I like the big Puerto Rican dude from the A and the Haitian brothers, along with the Woodfire dude, so far.

The chick from Philly who's vice is "going out after work and having too many cocktails" a) means "going out after work and taking on half the wait staff" and b) will end up in come kind of Eye-Tie style blood feud with Captain Douche Michael from Jersey.

I planned on watching this and Project Runway last night but only made it through PR--I don't like having both shows airing at the same time.

I just started catching up on this last night. Jesus, everyone is from Atlanta or Maryland, including that guy from Fredneck.

That Michael dude seems like a colossal douchebag, but I've eaten at Zaytinya a few times and enjoyed the food.

I found Jennifer to be an ass.

I have no idea. I don't have any reason to go to Frederick. I noticed on his bio he points out that he actually lives in Urbana. Wtf, that's just a few miles down the road.

I missed last night's ep, but I generally enjoy Toby. His book is a huge middle finger to almost everything.

Plus, when I emailed him about it, I got an actual reply.

I know next to nothing about him, but he always comes across as too try-hard on the show.

When he had an obviously rehearsed line about Tom Cruise in Tropic Thunder in one of his first episodes of Top Chef, that was it for me.

What sort of humorless, abuse filled childhood must those Voltaggio brothers have had? Lighten up, fellas.

(Brian has actually grown on me but I really don't like Michael at all.)

Yeah, I agree. Michael is a douchebag. I think it shows the age difference and how they handle things, with Brian being subdued but a little more mature.

I can't figure out Jennifer. Strange girl, although I bet she's a hard-ass in the kitchen. She kinda typifies what I think when I think of chefs-- work hard and play even harder.

I predict Kevin is gonna take this all the way. He seems to be the only one that isn't "dramatic," comes up with clever dishes and as far as I know, has never been in the bottom 3. Plus I happen to really like his humble way of presenting himself. AND he's from Atlanta!

I thought Mike V's reaction to losing to Kevin a couple weeks ago was really classless...Colicchio agrees on his blog:

[quote]I know that Mike V. was furious that Kevin won this challenge — as we all saw in the episode, he felt that Kevin’s techniques were more rudimentary than his and didn’t merit the win. He said something to the effect that he could have made Kevin’s dish in culinary school, that he cooks that way when whipping things up at home on his weekends off. In general, please do not be snowed by the techniques employed by the Voltaggio brothers. Yes, they’re employing advanced techniques versus Kevin’s more basic methods, but at the end of the day unless you can pull off those elevated elements and actually make the food taste great, I don’t care how many blowtorches it took to create the dish — Kevin’s food not only is consistently well executed but also tastes really incredibly good. Young chefs are often keen to use technological wizardry and forget how to just roast something and make it really delicious, and perhaps Michael would do well to use the “weekend techniqueâ€
