So, what is this the third or fourth album of the year so far?

Seriously though, listened twice and really do like it a lot. Good moody stuff without sounding too mopey. I'll probably end up listening to this a ton.

How many threads are we gonna have for this album?

Also...

Typical that a pinhead reviewer would pick my fave track as being the song that makes the album imperfect.

THIS is slowly becoming the record of the year.

Reigning Sound - Love & Curses

Image

While I've been playing the hell out of this for a week now, and it's guaranteed a Top 5 spot, it's impossible to say after such a short time whether it will continue as numero uno, but initial impressions are of unbridled lust. Greg Cartwright's voice has some serious raw impact. Several good songs here, Call Me, Trash Talk, The Bells, Debris & Polly Anne are current favorites, but really, they're all good. My only exposure to these guys was many years ago with Time Bomb High School but they've certainly raised the songwriting bar with this one. I love how they use those big slippery organ fills lifted from some late 60s soul record coupled with all the scuzzy guitars.

Man, Greg 'fucking' Cartwright.

This record would appeal to many folks round these parts. I'm surprised not a mention anywhere.

Derris and Rads have been all over it. Thanks for the link. D/ling now.

I don't know if I'd guarantee anything, but it's a great, fun rock record. I don't think it's a huge leap from anything else they've done, but that's not a bad thing as far as I'm concerned.

I was getting them mixed up with an old emo band called the Jealous Sound and couldn't figure out what the hot shit was all about.

This record was kinda spotty to me. Is the new one any different/better?

I thought the Reigning Sound was decent but nothing to jump up and down about. I'll have to throw it on again this week for a refresher.

William Fowler Collins - Perdition Hill Radio

Ambient artist who leans towards the dark side. Sounds like a soundtrack for the criminally insane in an abandoned asylum.

k, I actually picked up it up on your recommendation. Very eerie stuff. It takes some serious effort to sit through it though.

Yep. In my opinion nothing has even come remotely close to this, and there have been some great records this year. This is borderline immediate classic to me though. Like Derris said, this is brooding, black as night, scary as hell, ambient. To me he has pushed the envelope so far with this album that I don't even know I can truly call it ambient (though it is) as it is just remarkably heavy. I think you would really dig this Dalen.

Glad you at least checked it out Derris, for some really strange reason that makes me quite happy. Between knowing you listened to this, Hecker, and KFW in the past month, it appears you have really been searching some things out (or that I have just been very wrong in assuming what you listened to all this time).
