If you like these bands, you'll like this. It's over at www.bolachas.org

decent for both bands, but not worth purchasing.

I'm liking it well enough. I think Boris has been a bit off the mark for a little while now, but there's always moments that are fantastic with them.

agreed. ever since they were hanging out with with sunn, they've been a bit different. the last time i saw them was also pretty lackluster. but the first two times... wow.

the few songs that i caught at the Scion Rock Fest earlier this year were stellar. production wise they leave a bit to be desired imo.

I will always go see them for sure, but they are starting to remind me more and more of Boredoms. Not neccesarily in the way they sound at all, but in that they can't seem to focus on what they are doing. I'm all for progression, and thought they were momentarily onto something when they were blending new drone, with classic Japanoise in the vein of some of Heino's stuff, and tossing in a bit of shoegaze, it was impressive for sure, but I don't think they ever fully realized those efforts and have now once again moved somewhere else sonically. I think it's one of those things where I hold them up to such a high standard as for years they made some of the most mesmerizing records I had ever heard, and they're just not getting me that excited anymore.

Regardless, like you said, killer live, hate to hear Z's last experience was disappointing.

And back to the point of this thread, I can't seem to get into Torche no matter how many times I try.

i agree with just about all of this. that was exactly the problem when i last saw them in november. there came a point about an hour and a half through the show where they were simply disjointed. before then they were pretty good with flashes of the brilliance i have come to love.

they are the ultimate "should play no longer than 45 minutes" band. when they cut the fat for a short set, they melt faces. but when they're headlining and have all night, they just kinda seem to go on and on and on without focus. that's what allows me to lose interest.

Thought I'd ring in as well about the Boris live show. I've seen them on the past 2 tours--Rainbow and Smile, and the Smile show was pretty meh towards the end. I definitely agree on a 45 minute cap. I really attribute it to the fact that they are writing more "traditional" rock songs--for them. The Rainbow tour was better because of Michio Kurihara. Point blank he added some different mechanics into the show, and made it much more tolerable for much longer.

That might sound scathing, but it isn't meant to be towards Boris. Partially its my fault for expecting something that probably wasn't going to happen, and that was play all their early, noisy stuff.

yeah, you never know what you're going to get when you see them anymore.

the second time i saw them was at a festival where they front-loaded their set with the noise stuff that really blows people away live. and then the stage lost power, so they stopped after a half-hour. but it was pretty awesome because i'm sure they would've gone into the bad drone stuff for the next half-hour if the power had stayed on.
