I'm watching the special for this on Comedy Central. That bit killed me as did the Ginseng Hitler Bee Pollen comment in regards to Obama.

So any thoughts on his new movie "Big Fan"? Looks pretty interesting and dark. He and the director were on Fresh Air last week for about 40 mins talking about it. I guess my one concern is that it might just be a straight "look at this poor schlub" character study like "The Wrestler" was and not develop an interesting story along the way.

I'm pretty skeptical, I hoping they can pull it off though. Patton is perfect for that role.

yeah, Big Fan looks pretty bleak. I'm sure it'll be an interesting character study, but I dunno about story or plot. I'm pretty sure anyone going in expecting Remy the Rat or stuff from his comedy will be pretty disappointed.

Thanks paper. This provided a much needed lift during the 2 hour, horribly hungover drive from Birmingham to Atlanta yesterday.

I can't really give a proper evaluation though because I could've been listening to some old Howie Mandel tapes and probably would've found them funny at that point.

This is Derris about 3 in the afternoon on Saturday. Can't imagine where the night took him.

JESUS!

I forgot all about that shit. Actually, that was where a crucial, tactical error was made.

This was taken post-rehearsal dinner where beers were consumed during the cocktail hour and red wine was downed to go with my steak and to drink during the toasts.

Post-dinner was at a Mexican joint where margaritas were consumed after all of that. Huge mistake.

The only thing I saw at 3 in the afternoon was some doc on The Crips on the History channel from my hotel bed where it was cold enough to hang meat.

I support this observation wholeheartedly. I can have a couple of beers and then wine and be totally okay, but if I've reached a criterion level of drunkeness on beer, the transition to wine (red being key) creates some sort of instability in the mind. I ended up going crazy, openly taking food from people's plates, stealing a cheeseball and then trying to kick everyone out of the party. Luckily it was caught on tape too.

Case in point: one of the dates of one of the bridesmaids was openly hammered before the dinner even started. Half way through the meal (after starting in on the red wine) he apparently started making scene and the girl told him to leave and go back to the hotel so he did.

At some point he calls wanting to come back and all we hear is her on the phone:

Fuck you motherfucker! YOUR PATTERN IS FULL!!

Apparently dude made some Top Gun reference about "Negative Ghost Rider the pattern is full" or something.

Line of the weekend.

If someone's going into Big Fan expecting any more or less than rote Madison disdain for the plebian class, then you're a sick, sick individual with no connection to reality.

I, for one, will not be indulging Robert Siegel's sceneasta bullshit, nor should anyone. It's more trite -- triter? -- than any of the blue-collar "kitsch" he finds it in himself to bemoan & demean.

He's an asshole, nothing more. Fuck 'im, & fuck his ability to print money (as LooGAR has termed it).

If I want to find socio-cultural superiority, I'll do it for free, coming to Obner & reading Dalen &/or Radcliffe's latest musings.

I'm not really a fan of this guy but I did enjoy him on Bill Simmons podcast mainly because I like hearing comedians talk about comedy and other comedians and because he gives massive props to Louis CK for basically being the best living comedian throughout.

I feel like every comedian I enjoy does that: CK, and to a less extent, Todd Glass, Andy Kindler, and Brian Regan.

but yeah, that was a funny conversation. I had no idea what to expect, since Patton has always stated he knows nothing at all about sports.

Its probably my favorite thing about Opie and Anthony, these confabs of amazing comedians talking about comedy, be it Louis or Jim Norton or whoever. (and anytime Patrice O'Neil is involved is guaranteed to be fucking hilarious)
