I've been enjoying the new album from Peter Broderick "Home", so thought I'd share. Really beautiful acoustic bits, with some incredible vocal work that reminds me of Beach Boys harmonies.

Fans of Bon Iver and the like might dig.

As some of you may know, my new album Home was released on CD and digital formats yesterday in North America by Hush Records, with European release to come in mid October on Bella Union, as well as a limited edition vinyl on Type Records.

This record is ridiculously pretty, I still prefer Float though.

Glad you're liking it. This one reminds me (at least instrumentally) a lot more of Docile than Float. Perhaps just because Float was so pianocentric, I don't know. The vocals on this were a very pleasant surprise though. Really think this guy will end up being (relatively) huge. He just puts out records that I really can't imagine people not liking.

almost done listening here. i guess it falls into the sub pop pop realm (shins, iron and wine, fleet foxes), but another band it reminds me of, especially in regards to the light acoustic plucking is Lesser Birds of Paradise, who haven't been doing much lately as far as i know, but their previous two albums made my top 10 in their respective years.

agreed here. Float is his piano/ambient album, which was the perfect release for Type. i really hope Type plan on releasing more music from him in that style, because it's glorious.

Home is his "breakout" album imo. he's done wonders with the vocals and arrangements, and i think we'll be seeing it on quite a few year end lists. i hope so at least, because he def deserves the recognition.

i would say that i definitely like it. repeat listens will determine if it's just a casual fling, or if there is a serious relationship building here.

I hate starting new threads so I will borrow this one. Listened to Broderick's first dance piece last night "Music for Falling From Trees" and am really impressed. It's small no doubt (only written for four dancers, 1 male and 3 female), but I don't know that's he's quite ready for huge pieces. This is perfect for him I think as he really starts to branch out post-Efterklang, more into the composition world. This is the first one of his albums of this nature where I think he is really trying to find his own style rather than mimicking Terry Riley or Steve Reich. Good stuff.

Also his Ten Duets record (not dueting with anyone but two "instruments" in each piece, ex: Violin and Mouth, Mandolin and Theremin) that came out this year is really pretty, in the vain of his Float release from last year and Music for On Paper Wings.

Can post link for one or both if anyone's interested.

i've grown to love Home, but i haven't checked out anything else, as i've heard his other work is not like Home. (i.e. instrumental heavy instead of vocal heavy)

There's "Music for Falling on Trees", will get his other two from this year on here in a bit, everything's running real slow for some reason.

"Ten Duets", this has really grown on me (and inspired me to buy a postcard weevil).

I was listening to Home this weekend... I like it better than Float... spectacularly beautiful, comforting, challenging work. I'll try to listen to whatever this guy puts out.

Keeping with this guy's releases and contributions to other records is damn near a full time job. He's already put out the three solo records this year, collaborated on his sister's record, did some remixing for Balmorhea, is now working with some cellist I believe (coincidentally Richter is supposedly ready to come forth with some new cello work anytime), still doing the Efterklang thing, I worry that he's going to burn out (or that I will burn out on him), before the dude even hits 25.
