I just watched this flick yesterday and was struck by how excellent the background music was. Sounds kinda like Dick Dale. Was it? I'm having a hard time finding info on the soundtrack, short of the names of the songs.

All I remember is "Gloria" in the beginning, and then Stevie Wonder doing Stay Gold" at the end.

Coppola did the original score. if you are watching the "Complete Novel" aka the Directors Cut, they replaced the score with Elvis Presley and some other popular songs from the 60s. I believe the Marketts (surf pop) was used as well.

also i have the original score on cd. i'll unpack it asap.

It was the Director's Cut. Definitely.
