Arcade Fire is just holding up a little better.

i dont understand this. how is this so out of touch with reality? both of these are probably in every legitimate top-8 of the decade debate. am i missing something here?

Yes, you're missing where Dalen implied that everyone's taste in music should match up with his.

I don't like arguing top 8 vs. top 13 etc. But to me, neither album seems like the correct answer to the question "Top album of the Decade" (which incidentally isn't over). Nor do either of them even seem representative of the decade.

You can't deny the fact that these two albums were two of the most talked about releases in the 00s.

no i mean i get most of the "your music sucks" debates and i engage in them and while i wont call either of these my favorite album of the aughts, i think either is viable,

i also dont think there is a more representative album of the decade than funeral, for what its worth...orchestral indie rock, multi-instrumentalists, hype-driven, pitchfork-created/pushed, how does this not define at least the second half of this decade

Even if so, that means little. But this wasn't a "most talked about album of pre-2005" anyhow. I have no problem accepting that these albums are enjoyed by many people - but like I said before, they dont fit the bill, imo.

I really don't hear too many people talk about either of these bands.
I should have avoided voting in this one, since in no way do I view "Funeral" to be anywhere near the best album, but I had to vote for it over Wilco.
I just generally find Wilco to be mind numbingly boring and mehtastic, thus I had to go against it. I can take a few Son Volt songs, but also never got into Uncle Tupelo.

Well at least here is an argument other than 'you suck'...

Perhaps Im just out of touch - which is most probably the case, at least with Arcade Fire. But more so than Radiohead, TVOTR, Strokes, Interpol, Mclusky, Rapture, White Stripes? Or less rock-centered: Madvillan, JayZ, AC, Outkast?

Honestly, I have no idea- as my body begins to ache more, and I have less and less hair on the top of my head, but more hair in other places - I've spent less and less time trying to quantify things I ultimately feel are pretty unquantifiable.

I guess so, i mean we all get older, but theres something to be said for trying to name that which shall not be named. I always feel like to have the debate, you have to have a position, without that why even engage in the discussion.
