Derris is the canary in the mine.

Dowloaded the Reigning Sound, and will give it some listens.

Only once. I remember being into it, but that was a passive listen at work via small speakers (which is the same way I'm about to listen).

Ambient artist who leans towards the dark side. Sounds like a soundtrack for the criminally insane in an abandoned asylum.

k, I actually picked up it up on your recommendation. Very eerie stuff. It takes some serious effort to sit through it though.

Anyone got a link to this? Sounds like my cup of tea.

Yep. In my opinion nothing has even come remotely close to this, and there have been some great records this year. This is borderline immediate classic to me though. Like Derris said, this is brooding, black as night, scary as hell, ambient. To me he has pushed the envelope so far with this album that I don't even know I can truly call it ambient (though it is) as it is just remarkably heavy. I think you would really dig this Dalen.

Glad you at least checked it out Derris, for some really strange reason that makes me quite happy. Between knowing you listened to this, Hecker, and KFW in the past month, it appears you have really been searching some things out (or that I have just been very wrong in assuming what you listened to all this time).

will def check this out now.

k, is it similar to Svarte Greiner or Deaf Center?

it would save me the trouble of realizing that it's another one of your mid-40s cover bands.

About half way though The XX. I like this a lot. Not what I expected but I'm pleasantly surprised. This thread was a goldmine of new tunes. Looking forward to checking out Reigning Sound next. Thanks peeps.

8.7 is criminal.

9.2 is much more accurate.

I finally had a decent listen this morning. Its good if a bit slow though. I like the guitar sound and the M/F vocals. Definitely sounds like a couple of 20 year olds, but given a mature styled performance. It could be a top tenner.

My thought as well. A couple more listens are needed for me. After one spin, it seems a little sleepy but definitely has potential to grow.

xx really is a great album. Not sure I understand why all the press seems to say that R&B music can be heard as their major influence. That sounds like hipster bullshit to me.

definitely is stellar over the first 60 to 70%, then starts to fade, but a pretty great album, nonetheless.

if you can't hear the R&B influence, i don't know what to tell you. it's all over this album, especially vocally...even hints of it in the production.

and Saint, give the end of the album a chance. it slows, but it still holds a lot of emotion.
