I'm gonna get killed for this here, but on this album they sound like a cross between Hold Steady and the Mighty Mighty Bosstones.

That's when Katrina looked at me real good
and said "You know I've never had to knock on wood"

I pretty much agree.

It's okay, but the old stuff is way better and the keyboards and horns don't work for me.

Not indie enough, huh?

The horns really elevate the album. They could stand to negro it up a bit.

That's not what I meant by the Hold Steady/MMB comparison. I meant exactly what I said. Ben Nichols is veering closely to Dickey Barrett territory, and the horns they're using don't help the cause.

Any thoughts on the new 'Deadstring Bros' ? I felt their last record was somewhat disappointing. Sorry, I have no DL access from my current location.

It's quite a big improvement from that last one. More in line with Winter Report, thankfully. For one thing, they stuffed a gasoline-soaked rag in the chick singer's mouth, so there's no sub-Joplin tavern slut caterwauling going on.

Thanks, glad to hear it. Frankly, I thought it had the potential to unleash the power of suck after that last record.

I think it's a little slower and a little more boring than the last 2. I liked the last rekkid, though, so, shrug.

I'm in this camp. I don't find it quite as compelling at this moment, but by no means is it bad. Although I believe I could sing 'Amanda' over the music in 'Yesterday's Style'. I'm gonna call Don and let him know.

I wish Ben Nichols would remove that node off of his vocal chord.

damn, this thing is good - loving the horns. not really hearing the bosstones here, maybe a little in the vocals when he did the speak/sing thing in "sound of the city", but not really anywhere else.

Much more of an issue for the Deer Tick singer, IMO.

Me too, gone mine Saturday along with the t-shirt. Very nice lookin'.

Also listened to the album this morning, I enjoyed it but there weren't any songs other than the ones I heard on the sampler (and liked) that jumped out at me.

Got mine yesterday too. No t-shirt, but they did throw in a patch. But I don't know what I'll do with a patch.

Yeah, I take that back. Once I looked at the track number that song was, I remember track 2 standing out to me.

The sampler didn't really hit me, but the record as a whole is. I like this almost as much as I like "Becky".
