I actually would like to upgrade as I bought my existing albums in '88.

[quote]Jimi Hendrix Deluxe Reissues and Box Set Lined up for 2010 After New Deal with Sony

It looks as if fans of Jimi Hendrix have reason to look forward to next year. Thanks to a new licensing deal between Experience Hendrix — the Hendrix family company that controls all catalogue and copyright dealings to do with Jimi’s music — and Sony Music Entertainment, there will be a series of deluxe Hendrix reissues in 2010.

You’re probably thinking something along the lines of what we mentioned earlier this year — some experts say there are over 160 Hendrix releases out there already and isn’t that enough? Well, when there are still unreleased recordings in the vaults, no.

According to Reuters, the reissue series will include the three Jimi Hendrix Experience albums, as well as posthumous releases, the Dagger Records bootlegs and — what has Hendrix fans really worked up — the aforementioned previously unreleased material, which includes archival recordings and concerts.

Things aren’t fully ironed out yet between Sony and Experience Hendrix, so no one’s saying too much about content, but Reuters says there will be “extra material and enhanced packagingâ€

Man, I feel like I just bought remastered and unreleased stuff like 6 years back. Unless its staggering in extra material I'm not gonna re-buy the records. New bootlegs, or posthumous releases...oh yeah.

I used to buy absolutely every Hendrix album/song/collaboration I could find. What I've realized, though, is that only the three Experience albums, Band of Gypsys and the live albums are really worth it. The stuff he was working on when he died is...not good.

I really have no interest in getting a digitally enhanced version of songs I already have 4-5 copies of anyway.

I had the casettes of all the Alan Douglas stuff he was working on when he died, and yeah, it was just so-so. A few good ones, but not really anything revelatory.

"First Rays of the New Rising Sun" was ok. There's also one that came out around the same time with him on the cover on a motorcycle, which wasn't bad.

I remember when "Voodoo Soup" came out. It was a pretty big deal if I remember correctly. That is probably one I could've done without.

Again, those are all regroupings of older stuff that's come out in other forms in the 70's and 80's. The casettes I had were Crash Landing and Midnight Lightning, and I can't remember what else anymore.

edit - found the cover art

These were the tracks he was working on when he croaked. Alan Douglas got the nod to "finish" them with drums and bass and whatnot.

I sold my copy of Crash Landing on Amazon for like $35 last year. I had no idea CDs were worth that much.

Yep. Complete tape head here. If you actually want to get rid of them let me know.
