Ok, this is kind of strange. Does anyone really go out & buy briquettes by the pound?

I didn't see elsewhere in the ad that they were pricing gallons of paint by the quart, or 8ft. 2x4s for $4 (that's fifty cents per foot!!) :?

If you don't see a quality difference between two products, unit price is really the only reasonable criteria I can think of.

As someone who calculated price per oz. of different varieties of beer in college to save money, I don't find it all that strange. I also pay attention to the price per oz markings on price tags at the grocery store. They're pretty surprising sometimes--especially now when so many products are changing their packaging to reduce volume.

Plus, if you price it by the pound, that way you can accurately figure out what to charge your friends when you ask for their cut after you invite them to a bar-b-q.

Definitely put a dent in my morning. It seems everyone in Michigan has a story about running into Ernie Harwell at one time or another and I don't think a single one of those stories has him being anything less than a joyful, gracious, honorable man who flat out loves life.
An amazing talent and one of the reasons I will always prefer baseball on the radio to televised games.

I'm not pouring anything out yet since he's still very much alive. But I know one hell of a bummer day is waiting down the road. Carpe diem, y'all.

So what's everyone's take on parents being afraid Obama is going to brainwash the youth of America via the Internet in schools next week? I can understand and expect some local-level wingnuts to fly off the handle, but when Congress members are almost quoting Orwell I can't help but do a facepalm.

Personally, I think most of the youth of America could use some brainwashing.

Deep-Fried Butter:

Gonzales' creation is simple.

He whips pure butter until it is light and fluffy, freezes it, then surrounds it with dough.

The butter-laden dough balls are then placed into the deep fryer and voila - out comes a treat likely to give your cardiologist a coronary.

I don't really understand what the big deal is. Lots of classrooms show presidential speeches, etc. I guess the difference this time is that he's specifically speaking to the kids?

I think it's stupid to make a big deal about it. I mean, he's not going to say anything that could be remotely offensive. He's just going to tell them to stay in school. The parents that are worried are the people who just assume everything Obama does is offensive in wrong.

It's this week's new "thing about obama to oppose no matter how little sense it makes to do so"

because he MUST BE OPPOSED. DAMN DAMN OPPOSED!

I think the stupidity of these people is awe inspiring!

I haven't seen that much about this and have seen no congressional reaction. The thing the local news was focused on this morning was the part where they wanted the students after the address to write letters to themselves on how they can help the president. That's been scrapped and rightly so. I inclined to give them the benefit of the doubt that it was well-intentioned but I can see how parents who don't agree with the president's agenda wouldn't want their kids to have to write letters about how they can help the president as part of their class. As far as any address he wants to make to the kids, I can't imagine being that offended by any of its content.

I really don't expect Obama to say anything to kids that would be Big Brotherish. He's surprised me before with things he's done, but I really don't think he's that stupid.
