Proving once again that's pretty damn difficult to do even simple things when half of the country hates you in a burning, personal, irrational manner.

maybe i'm just irrationally angry, but does it bother anyone else when you're driving and let a pedestrian cross the street in front of you and they walk at an angle instead of straight across?

I might not be the most patient example of a person to ask, but oh, shit yes.

there's also this

with this little gem:

"Because you see, the taxes can be such a penalty on people that there's no incentive for them to prosper and to earn more and so forth because they have to give so much to the government ..."

(that was part of reagan's address to students in '88 - question and answer session with students)

That doesn't bother me so much, but when I bother to be nice and stop for the person and they don't even wave or nod their heads...that bothers me. Just a slight acknowledgement is all that I need.

Definitely put a dent in my morning. It seems everyone in Michigan has a story about running into Ernie Harwell at one time or another and I don't think a single one of those stories has him being anything less than a joyful, gracious, honorable man who flat out loves life.
An amazing talent and one of the reasons I will always prefer baseball on the radio to televised games.

I'm not pouring anything out yet since he's still very much alive. But I know one hell of a bummer day is waiting down the road. Carpe diem, y'all.

Would be great if the Tigers could send him out with a WS title on the 25th anniversary of 1984.

& for Jose Feliciano to play for him one more time. (See World Series '68, controversy regarding National Anthem.)

Zombie ants!

Quote:
In Thailand, scientists have discovered a "Dawn of the Dead" -esque fungus that infects ants, turning them into "zombies" that the fungus can then control. From LiveScience:

"The fungus accurately manipulates the infected ants into dying where the parasite prefers to be, by making the ants travel a long way during the last hours of their lives," said study leader David P. Hughes of Harvard University.

My wife's due date is wednesday, we hiked over 7 miles today of loose rocky up and down bullshit, and I had to work to keep up with her.

It's amazing how much vodka you can drink before you know it when you mix it with pureed watermelon, limes, fresh mint leaves and just a touch of sugar. Finished off a fifth yesterday between 2 people before we realized we were drunk at all. (OK, we poured one drink out of it for someone else who drifted by, but still.)
