The Vibrators: Batteries Included

Early Vibrators compilation with tracks off the first couple albums plus a couple bonus tracks. I really like it, but lots of people would say just go ahead and pick up Pure Mania and V2 instead. Either way, I think these guys are an often underrated early punk band in the mold of the Buzzcocks with lots of catchy poppy tunes that keep a good edge.

They're still around and are supposed to have an album out later this year. They put one out last year that was kinda good but kinda confusing as it was all covers of classic punk songs. They did 'em well, but do I really need remakes 30 years on of just straight ahead versions of all that stuff? Next one's supposed to be originals.

egh. I sent my friend the review today from PF. They opened for SY when I saw them on this tour. Horrid, horrid band. Probably wouldn't have been so bad if he kept his mouth shut.

Haha. The record is pretty bad for sure. I saw him about 4 years ago on a random night in Nashville and the show was actually really, really good. I see he hit his peak back then.

Yeah, I had heard that his shows were interesting, and his debut record was listenable and had its moments. Kurt Vile opened as well with SY and Kurt Vile was much, much better. Wish he would've played the entire opening sets.

Most surprising thing--and, I guess this is because he was close in proximity to his hometown--he has groupies. Weird, hippie groupies.

How is that Wild Beasts, Jon? I listened to a few samples and the vocals sound too much like Antony and the Johnsons which turned me off a bit.

the music is gorgeous and i think they've let the other dude who has a more normal voice sing a bit more on this one, but yeah the vocals do sound like antony. it really doesn't bother me as much as antony though.

I've only listened to it twice, but I like it, too. Definitely better than their last one.

Hmmm...so far so good. The singer reminds me a little of Tindersticks. First song is goood.

The Slackers: An Afternoon in Dub

Have seen these guys live a couple times and enjoyed them but have rarely listened to their records. Live, and I believe on most of their records, they tend towards uptempo ska. This release is an about face. It's all jazz inflected soulful instrumental dubs. Very laid back and bass to shake down your walls. Really nice music to sit back and have a smoke to. I guess its been out of print on CD for quite some time from the prices I see asked for it on some sites. But, there is a newly released vinyl version available cheap that I'm playing right now.
