X: Los Angeles, Wild Gift, Under The Big Black Sun, More Fur In The New World

Picked up these remastered versions with bonus tracks last night. Gonna play 'em all straight through today. One of my favorite punk bands or really bands of any sort ever. These first four albums show a band growing and evolving while still staying true to their original sound. After this, they dropped Billy Zoom and went pretty much to shit with an occasional solid song or two strewn over a few mediocre albums. But, this quarter of albums they kicked off with are all strong, from the chaotic punk noise on Los Angeles and Wild Gift to the rootsy rock and roll of Under The Big Black Sun and More Fun in the New World.

Midtown Dickens - Lanterns

self-released slab of vinyl that is amazingly well recorded, considering how their live shows are. Went to a house show last night and caught this NC band as they were trekking up and down the east coast. Core is two girls who play about a bajillion instruments each. I hesitate to call them a string band, but at their core they have that mentality. Their show is really high energy and the crowd can't help but get involved with handclaps or hoots and hollers.
