Jim Carroll RIP.

Musically, he never outdid that first album (and in terms of his writing, he never exceeded Basketball Diaries), but fuckit - "Wicked Gravity", "Crow", "City Drops Into The Night", and "People Who Died" are gotdamn bedrock/ 3 chord immortality. Consider this terra fairly well stomped.

When you factor in the punishment he put himself through, he was actually 136.

RIP.

Basketball Diaries>>>>>what he did musically.

DERN.

Wicked Gravity is a monster. And The Truckers closing a show with People Who Died is a capper to a real fuckin Rock Show.

One of the few EVER that was both a relevant writer and singer. I can't even think of anyone else.

The only places I've found mention of him dying are message board and twitter posts. Either this is a hoax, or the news really sucks ass.

I hope it's the former, but RIP Jim if it's not.

Wow. Gotta dig some JC out of my old vinyl stacks today. Work Not Play from Dry Dreams has always been a favorite.

Wiki lists 9/12/09 but without a citation. This recent image suggests he is not doing too good...

There's a cover of "People Who Died" on the Japanese import of the new Wildhearts record that I'm lookin' forward to hearing.

Considering the amount of death in 09', those pictures of him didn't seem like he had much chance to make it to January.

Outside of Wicked Gravity and People Who Died, I wasn't much of a fan.

Someone post a source, where there is one, please?

I like that you just challenged your own post.

Opiates in general don't savage the body. As long as you get "your medicine" life and its body can manage. Of course there is the problem of street heroin and its hamburger helpers of corrosive chemicals that step on it. And the lifestyle sometimes required to get fixed. And uncertain potencies resulting in respiratory failure; and dirty needles leading to fatal diseases. Other than that, no problem.
