Got this in the corner of my eye all day long:

http://atdhe.net/watch-us-open.php?i=3

Only to go from work to practice on-court before studying more on the tube at home. I'm immersed in this year's Open.

Let this be the thread in kind.

I'd seriously love to go to Wimbledon someday but the US Open is right there as well.

I'd love to see Roddick pull off a miracle and finally get a major win but it's doubtful.

I'd at least like to see an American in the Semis.

I'm pulling for Roddick too. Or Nadal. And Maria.

I stand corrected. I forgot that he won the US Open.

Still, he's hardly lived up to billing since then and some thought he was DONE a couple years ago.

I mean, he's probably the best US male player since Sampras retired and he's got as many majors as Sampras this decade I think.

I think everyone is really just hoping Nadal stays healthy and meets Federer in the Finals. I'm sure the Open officials are praying for that.

McEnroe tipped our boy.

Hopefully he does it so we can erect a giant sign saying HENMAN = FAIL facing in a southern direction.

If Murray makes the Final, I bet the Teabaggers & other assorted Falangists will call for a boycott, in solidarity with the PanAm 103 victims's families who were punched in the gut by that "radical" Scottish jurist.

Federer LOL.

Did anyone actually watch this or even know that it was on tonight?

Way to put the signature US tennis event up against a double header of Monday night football on the opening weekend of the season.

Someone at the USTA should be fired.

i caught this and thought it was a fantastic fucking game. i didn't realize del potro and federer met at the french - i first heard of this kid at the du maurier finals when he lost to murray. kid's Nasty. his forehand is like The Annhilatrix on frisky dingo. great to see more new young blood in tennis. massive win against a tennis god.

Yeah I know but lots of pro sports move their games around (NBA being the #1 culprit) to make sure they maximize their viewing audience. I don't see how moving it to Tuesday night would've hurt anything and they probably would've tripled their viewers. I know people have tickets but seems like they could make that open ended for anyone with tickets to the Final being able to use them when it was scheduled.

True. But it's already... tennis. It isn't the World Series getting pushed into November by 9/11. Move it around too much & it gets lost in the shuffle.

Kind of like the Davis Cup. It always SEEMS to be going on, but who knows where it's at, really.

Anyway, nothing in the men's final was going to top Serena demonstrating the power of street knowledge in the women's semi.

Final match turned out to be pretty good. And, dude beat Nadal and Federer to win it. I hope he is using the trophy as a pimp cup and vibing priapic in the Meatpack District...and that's not a euphamism for anything other than the place where dem clubs at.

that was a great match. fuck a football game. those who wanted to watch this knew where to find it. I was more curious about why they started it at 4:30... but maybe football's why. anyway i barely like del potro over federer, but you gotta love when the underdog deservedly beats the best in the world, so hopefully we don't have to see his smug face as often some time in the distant future.

Yeah but you're big tennis fan ish.

The job of the US Open's organizer or the head of the USTA's job is to promote the sport the best it can. They failed miserably in my estimation.

We watched it. I was pretty engrossed, great match. The officials were kinda douchey again, telling Federer not to talk to them...? He's allowed to do that if he doesn't raise his voice and shit, which he didn't. And he was right about their bad call.

Also I almost lost it when Enberg didn't initially let Del Potro say something in Spanish.

Yeah we watched it also. I thought it was good TV. For some reason it wasn't even on the CBS station here. Which means I couldn't watch it in HD, which pissed me off kinda.

But yeah there's no competing with football, ever.

yes, i choose tennis over life every day.

maybe they could've delayed it til tuesday, but most importantly how would that have sat with the players? i think the usta was banking on an early start and non-overlapping audiences, generally, justifying the monday schedule. more concerning was the women's final not being televised on regular cable up here.

i'm also a bills fan, in theory.
