Listening to a promo of whatever this is, and holy shit I finally get this group. Amazing so far. Far less refined than anything else I've heard.

Interesting. The only album I really liked by them was "Tri Repetae." They're playing in LA in May, I'm considering checkin them out. How are they live?

I hated the last Autechre record more than any other ever released. Intellectualising dance music is such a very bad idea.

The trendies would never admit it but a cheap Happy Hardcore mix by Fergie or Scott Brown or someone like that would piss all over these dreary boffins from a great height.

You just slagged on the very existence of at least two recognized musical genres.

It's just purple and text, yes, very minimalist. I'd give it a listen if I were you. It's not nearly as automatic as everything of theirs that I've heard it. It settles into some very awkward grooves and makes you forget about the very concept of melody. I already know, I've sold you.

I thought it was called "Untilted" I think that's worse than "Untitled" though.

Their last album was pretty dull, but I love Confield and the s/t. I don't hear their music as "intellectualized dance music" at all. It merely takes fuller advantage of the texture of electronic sounds than the rigid structure of dance music generally allows. They like beats, but they like to fuck with them rather than just let them go.

This actually sounds like a description of most all of their post-2000 stuff.

Note: I may have misread the title, and not listened close enough to their recent catalogue.

I like their self titled record and Confield but that's about it.

except its not dance music.

or maybe even music???

i regard autechre material more like a science experiment with the sound, if you catch my drift. but that's just me. some of those beats cut speakers in half.

"rae" however, is quite possibly the greatest 'electronic' song ever.

There were rumors going around that early "leaks" of the album were fakes.

I don't know if the one Dalen heard is real or not.

Personally I wish all dance music were intellectualised.

Meaning that I like smart dance music and there's no reason why it can't be.

I haven't, and now I am . . . I like it. This doesn't appear to be anything new for these guys. It's been a while since I listened to ae, but isn't this kind of along the Tri Repetae lines? At least it's more "musical" than what they've been doing the past couple of albums. I still think Tri Repetae (especially the bonus disc with the two EPs) and Chiastic Slide are brilliant, and Amber is quite nice too.

Edited to add: What the hell? This is off LP5 (or self-titled, depending on who you ask.) No wonder it sounded so familiar . . .

CDUniverse is showing "Untilted" as the title, not "Untitled." (http://www.cduniverse.com/productinfo.a ... =237007187) Who's right?

i dunno that songs got some otherworldly type of emotional weight hardly known to autechre, and also, i think technically it is super too. (how the beat starts out all solid and optimistic, but then from halfway through keeps deteriorating with time, all chuggy chuggy sounding, despair etc). its just gets a big response from me. just one of those rare times when a great “song” matched up with all their technicality/texture. i am not saying they prbly can't do this more often, cuz they prbly can, if that’s what they wanted to.
