Isn't this exactly the sort of thing that a lot of people in this very thread routinely dismiss as "reg rock" (and fairly run-of-the-mill reg rock at that)?

from what I hear I agree, a little more rootsy but run-o-the mill kinda. I admit I like that kind sometimes but this has not hit me

I rarely notice people dismissing much as reg rock here, but that could be due to my own preconceived notions. I see way more stuff being arbitrarily ignored as PPDD music without much credence than I do posters dismissing reg rock.

Yeah, I thought reg rock was just a description, not a pejorative.

I saw these guys play with Jonny Corndawg and local artists Manny Coon and Outlaw Con Bandana last night. I thought it was a great show. They impressed me more live than they have on their albums.
Jonny Corndawg was probably my favorite performer overall last night. He does Rockabilly tunes and sounds alot like Buddy Holly to me. His band in general looked like they should be playing CCR cover tunes and he makes rather ridiculous airbrush t-shirts for added income.

i was actually pretty disappointed with deer tick through the bulk of their set here this past week. they had some pretty good moments and the back end was way better than the front. but jonny corndawg was excellent. and the crowd was going bananas for him.

I wasn't too crazy about this at first, but it has REALLY grown on me over the past week or two. Definite lock to make my year-end list.
