You'll have your hands full keeping them away from the kind of people you were... supposedly. (Derris, & prolly Busty, do seem they might be as much as advertised, at least.)

Anyway, I hope you end up match-making them with Pop_Todd's kids.

Teenage daughters are why alcoholism was invented.

Thanks all. I don't know when or how I became the hippy tree hugging strawman comic foil for some of you but whatever makes you happy makes me happy I guess.

Wife was in rough shape last night following 17 hrs of labor pushing out 8 lbs 3 ounces of baby but today she's recovering perfectly.

Tanner, I cannot imagine 2 more. My god.

I'll take a fast blackberry stab at this.

I know shit about home births. A few questions in regards to your experience. Please provide specific examples. Show your work.

1. How many personnel/staff are involved in this? What are their roles?

2.What's the certification of the presumed midwife whose overlooking this whole 'mess'?

3. What's the protocol/plan in the worst case scenario? And what criteria are used before a home birth is aborted?

4. What's the cost comparison?

1. A midwife, her backup, and later a pediatrician. We'd been meeting with our midwife for 7 months. We meet the pediatrician 3 days after the birth. During the birth, it's the two midwives.

2. Varies by state. Here there is a cert process and they are licensed.

3. Backup plan is a car and a hospital, in our case both half a mile away and unneccessary. There are protocols about bloodloss and other complications for when it's time to call it quits and go to the hospital.

4. A c section birth in the US runs about $17k, a normal hospital vajayjay birth about $9k, and a home birth about $4k. But home birth comes with the stigma of being a hippy somehow, so factor that in. For our 2 cents, we just wanted to be at home and not have drugs. No more or less than that really. This 1800's / coyote talk is hilarius. I chuckled. Nobody's trying to talk anyone into changing... As loog said, rejoice in your ability to choose. Meanwhile c section rates in the US are over 30% but we have an inferior infant mortality rate. But you know, coyotes.

Thanks for answering those questions.

I can't confidently discuss the infant mortality rates; but I think it has more to do with inadequate access to pre-natal care. Those C-section rates are likely related to the fact that obstetricians are the most likely specialty to be sued. Which is unfortunate but understandable since one wants to point a finger at someone when his or her kid doesn't come out perfect. There's a physician near Madison who works with the Amish community. If I remember the statistic correctly, he has a Cesarean section rate of around 3% due to the fact that most Amish births occur in their homes.

Congrats and good luck.

My second kid would have been dead if there weren't 50 doctors and nurses around. Basically they told us the delivery went too quick and when the baby is in the canal, the fluids are squeezed out so they can breath upon getting out, so my kid coiuldn't breath and was turning purple. There were alarms and people screaming and running everywhere. I was freaking out.

My wife is always saying that she wants a home birth for when we decide to have kids. Personally, I'm on the fence--mostly for the safety issue, but then again I haven't done much research. Yours looked very nice though.

I will say though, that I'm willing to yield to my wife on the decision because it will be for her comfort and not mine.
