LL Chili Peppers.

Quote:
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame today revealed this year's nominees for the class of 2010, among them a rapper turned actor, a group of sock-wearing pioneers, the inspiration for last year's biggest movie, a couple of guys who can't dance (or sing) and a couple more who could single-handedly keep the makeup industry in the black (and white).

In their first year of eligibility—25 years after their first album's release—LL Cool J and the Red Hot Chili Peppers both snagged nominations to be welcomed into the Hall of Fame, joining vets ABBA, Genesis, KISS, Donna Summer, the Stooges, the Hollies, the Chantels, Jimmy Cliff, Darlene Love and Laura Nyro.

Along with the Iggy Pop-fronted Stooges, Summer, Love, ABBA and the Chantels are all repeat nominees. After years of grousing by their fans, KISS has a shot for some validation—and another excuse for Gene Simmons to sound off.

The dozen honorees will be whittled down to the final five by January, after 500 industry insiders cast their ballots. The winners will be welcomed into the legendary fold when the 25th annual induction ceremony takes places in New York March 15.

I always argue this, but KISS definitely deserves to be in. One of the biggest and best-selling artists of all-time, and probably inspired many musicians growing up in the mid-70s to early 80s. They definitely brought a stage presence.

i've never listened to a Kiss album, or heard one of their songs by choice, but they without a doubt belong in the HOF.

Only if the pre-Patton lead vox joins them for the all-star jam.

KISS have been eligible since 1999, and this is their first nomination.

I'm skeptical they will actually get in, because several people in on the R&RHOF committee have gone on record as saying they will do everything possible to block them from entering the hall, regardless of their statistical merits, influence, and comparative sales, which is exactly why the HOF is a complete joke.

There's little question they deserve to be in, if we're going by commercial statistics and influence.

Not arguing but I plead ignorance to who they've influenced. Anyone respectable because I can't think of anyone.

KISS and Def Leppard are perhaps the biggest pieces of shit bands in the history of "hard rock".

Off the top of my head, Mike McCready of Pearl Jam has gone on record saying he copped Ace's solo from "She" for the end lead of their song "Alive". There are several hard rock lead guitarists that cite Ace as a major influence.

Also, for what it's worth, Ace Frehley's 2009 album (released 9/15) is probably the best thing he's ever done, and KISS' 2009 album (out in 2 weeks) is the best thing they've released in 32 years.

I thought KISS' new album was them re-recording all of their greatest hits.

They did that last year at a Japanese import, and that same disc is being included as a bonus disc on this year's new album.

So they were definitely a strong influence on themselves, that's a start.

KISS belongs in the HoF about as much as Andrew Lloyd Weber. They mine the same territory.

Listen to their first album again and reevaluate accordingly.

First, I think that the rock live record was probably great influenced by them, and how big "Alive" was. From that period on, if you were a rock band you had to put out a live record. Before that, it was just something crooners put out to spotlight their outing at the Tropicana.

Maybe not in your wheelhouse, but bands/artists like Beastie Boys, Soundgarden, Metallica, Garth Brooks, and even Paul Westerberg have all admitted influence from them. They have the respect of The Who, Queen, and even Little Steven, so why all the hate?

Just because you whiny bitches don't like KISS, it doesn't mean they don't belong in the HOF. They've influenced a hell of a lot of bands. If those bands need to be pointed out to you, you haven't been following music very much at all.
