I think I explained myself pretty well.

I "wanted to hate it" (the album) based on what I had already heard ("Lust for Life") and what I'd seen (what they look like) and read (reviews, hype).

Decided to check out "Lust For Life" and "Laura" to see if this was my thing.

Nope.

Mostly generic guitars, grating vocals and lyrics that did nothing to distinguish themselves - though, as disclosure, it takes a few tries with me on lyrics most of the time.

Yeah, not going back to this. This bunch will be happy to have Black Kids' career longevity.

That's the label they should stick on the CD.

Yeah, I like this. The guy's voice is pleasing to me... lo fi makes a comeback. Lou Barlow, this... I am good this season.

you call yourself a journalist, and this is all you can come up with? how sad.

it's obvious that you haven't spent much time with this record. Rolling Stone is a perfect match for you.

I suppose if my life depended on it I'd be willing to go back and listen to that claptrap some more and maybe render an opinion weighed down with some more 50-cent words and dissect Girls' place in the lo-fi pantheon (OK, here; somewhere south of a shit-stained piece of toilet paper trailing off of Bob Pollard's shoe).

And really, why is anymore thought necessary here? If you find out in the first five seconds that fucking a porcupine is among your most unpleasant experiences ever, there's much need to go the full job and make sure so you can describe the agony in full proper detail. "Ow!" more than suffices. With this Girls album, "nondescript, forgettable trash" is as far as I need to go.

Its a pretty harmless album to elicit so much hate. I can't imagine something like this going polar, just pointless really. Its no better, no worse than that Films album, which I like too.

I agree with this, although I like the Films much more.

Sure, it's dumb when you misquote me and leave out the part where I said I'd already heard one of their songs.

Still just haven't gotten around to listening to this yet. Been so backlogged with other new albums these days.
