Well, that was easy...

Procedure was this morning...they put me under...Didn't do anything invasive (that I know of), and I was in and out of there in under 5 hours....

Gentlemen, drink at least 8-10 glasses of water a day....

Good to know.

Dov, best of luck.

Any other diet tips to be aware of? Rarely drink Iced Tea, rarely eat ice cream, drink 60+ OZ of water a day.

I hate pain.

OUCH

my old man gets these all the time. apparently his body makes a bit more calcium or it doesn't break calcium down right?

i know it's painful because it's the only time i've seen him crawl or howl.

at a very young age this inspired me to adopt the habit of drinking water any chance i get throughout the day. i usually have 4 or 5 big glasses a day...in addition to the other things i drink.

fortunately for you, the procedure isn't as nasty as it used to be. though it's still no walk in the park.

I haven't done a lot of in depth research, but I've heard eating a lot of red meat doesn't help. Also, make sure your urine is consistently pale, with very few deviations into dark yellow.

Water.
Lots of it, every day.

I drink a lot of water, but that's probably one of few things I AM doing right. heh

The water cooler I drink from all day at work was down yesterday, and the first thing that popped into my head was a picture of those disgusting, evil kidney stones.

This is why I carry a cooler and three(3) Nalgene bottles to work with me everyday.

(also a gallon of coffee which is probably nothing to brag about)

I just went with tap water. It's gotten to where I'm just used to having something to drink at my desk, like my hand's gonna float away if I don't have a full glass.

That's really what they look like? Sweet Jebus... I had heard of the pain of passing stones, didn't know they were literally kidney mines designed to cause major pain. Best o'luck and better you than me.

I was thinking morning stars, but yeah they look dreadfully painful.

Isn't there a machine that pulverizes these stones sonically or through vibrations without need for surgery? I remember reading something about that years ago.

Knocking me out, attaching some sort of gel pack to my side, and they are gonna shock the stone into sand...no invasive surgery needed (as of now).

pain sucks.

This is a topic I can speak to. Be thankful the stone was in a place (likely up near the kidney) that you could have the shock procedure done. I wasn't so lucky.

I've had 3 kidney stones over the past 10 years. The first two I eventually passed, but last year I had to have surgery to have one removed. The pain of the kidney stone itself is excruciating, but having a stent from your kidney all the way to the tip of the penis for a week, and the subsequent removal of the stent by simply yanking it out, is no picnic either.

Now I'm on medication and drinking water, water, and more water.
