Work has rudely gotten in the way for me, but I really enjoyed the last hour of day 2. Even the repeats from day 1 sounded fresh, a little tighter.

Not a bad way to start a Tuesday. Thx.

I just finished and rank it a B+/A--, if only some minor meandering. Standouts for me were 'Lovelight' 'That's It for the Other One' and the very awesome opening one-two punch of 'Viola Lee Blues'/'Hurts Me Too'.

Yeah. That's It for the Other One is kickin my ass right now.

This was great for this morning. And I think another set like yesterday would have completely fucked this experiment.

I also know what I'm picking next.

i guess i'm not as forgiving as some of you re: sound quality. it's the first thing i noticed, and generally why i prefer the official live releases over dick's (there are some exceptions in the series of course). when there is something as crisp and clean as fillmore west 1969 or two from the vault out there, i'll reach for that every time over inferior sound.

well, i'm over that small issue now that "viola lee blues" has kicked into gear. loving this. chooglin, swampy groove. this could go on forever and i wouldn't mind. this era is an easy second to '77 for me.

I think I'm only a few minutes behind Rabbit. The first two tracks were cool because they're a more raw and bluesy GD guitar sound I'm not as familiar with. I really liked the segues from Dark Star into China Cat into The Eleven. The groove now fits like a glove.

I'm on 'Hurts Me Too' right now. This is the stuff I really love and missed in the Dead post-'72.

Yeah, and when they did play it, there was a lack of the grittiness.

i'm on lovelight now, and yeah, pigpen certainly brought the grit. i like to imagine what this band would've morphed into had he lived. while i really love what china cat and morning dew and others eventually turned into, these loose, heavy versions are really fun.

I saw him at the Ryman during the Cold Roses tour. I distinctly remember drunkenly yelling "play DARK STAR!!!"

I feel like the drumming is more aggressive and louder in the mix than most Dead shows i'm familiar with. They are really working those snares.

I believe it stands for "poo poo doo doo". I think it was christened when all the Animal Collective talk was going on, but I could be wrong.

Yeah, my main problem with a lot of the material here is that its not the versions on Two From The Vault which is one of my favorite performances ever and definitely the definitive statement from this era. That said, I was pretty thoroughly entertained with everything here: The bluesy stuff (especially Garcia's guitar tone which is awesome and Pig who is pretty on vocally), the China>Eleven (Eleven and The Other One are far and away my favorite two jams from this era), the fast/short Dark Star (put me in the camp that could take or leave a lot of Dark Stars)...I had a major issue with the lack of the big crazy drum intro for the solo part in The Other One: It seemed like Jerry jumped the gun and everybody followed along.

I'll post my pick for the next show later unless you guys want to take a day off.

This has been a great way to come in and start my mornings and just jam out some work, so let's keep the momentum going.

This is going to be monstrous. I really thought this was going to be like a once a week thing. Keep 'em coming.

Ok, I'm gonna pick a reliable favorite from probably my second favorite Dead era:

Volume 4: Filmore East 1970

excellent. it'll be nice to compare/contrast how the band changed so much in those 2 years.

only the truly brave will be able to stick it out through the 90 minute dark star->other one->lovelight right smack in the middle though. dang.

Awesome, Bloor. I love this show, might even be my favourite, featuring these heavies:

"Dark Star" – 29:41
"That's It for the Other One" – 30:07
"Turn On Your Love Light" – 30:27

I'll start upping now.

I'm hoping to be in the car for a good portion of that.

The intro alone is worth the price of admission, and I am generally a fan of "And We Bid You GoodNight"

Not sure I can handle the 30 minute Dark Star, but am morbidly curious about the 30 minutes of both That's It for The Other One, and Lovelight.
