You know what, though? When I was younger, and the chain record stores used to sell 45's or cassette / CD singles, the top ten on the wall was always the mainstream shit that I didn't care about / never heard of.

Somehow, it's sort of comforting that the system still works in some way.

I've actually heard 3 of those, which might be the first time in a decade I can say that. Thanks, SNL.

I dig "Empire State of Mind", though.

semi-related; Black Eyed Peas have been No. 1 on the Billboard 100 since the beginning of April.

I was flipping around and caught the performance of it from the MTV awards: It didn't do a whole lot for me.

I also saw a clip of the new Miley on The Soup last week and commented to my wife that it was particularly horrible even for the genre.

"Run this town" has been widely used on NFL games and on ESPN, with good reason.

That Owl City song is deadly poison - it sounds like a 12 year-old Ben Gibbard singing lyrics written by Ned Flanders.

Lady Gaga seems to have talent, but I still cannot stand her. Also, her costumes for the sake of costumes is (edit)boring(edit). A co-worker who digs her had me watch the SNL performance from this past week. Awkward with the saturn rings while playing piano.

Lady Gaga really is annoying. And I really don't want to hear any more hipsters or supposedly "serious" music fans talk about how she's actually really, really talented but just makes throwaway pop because she can get away with it.
