The hell with Oasis.
Suede wrote the best single of the whole early-90's BritPop thing with "Metal Mickey".

They're not my favorite BritPop band (that distinction belongs to Blur), but I gotta show a little love for the band that time forgot. We never talk about them and I just wanted to bring them back into the conversation.

I own all their albums but A New Morning, when they started falling off for me.

So yeah, I really dig 'em. I wonder how they would've progressed had Butler stayed on.

I think its been discussed here that their B-sides collection "Sci-Fi Lullabies" is one of the best things to come about in that era. It is in my top 20 for sure, which is saying a lot for a band that had such good records as well.

there's only a handful of folks on here that dig Suede. the ones with good taste in music.

but Metal Mickey is not the best britpop single, and Oasis were not a britpop band ;)

I still listen to the first album all the time.

I argue with both of you that neither Metal Mickey nor Common People (while both brilliant) are the anthems. I don't think you can have one.

It would likely be a blur song though...

The first two Suede albums were great.

'Dog Man Star' is particularly brilliant - dark, frightening, pornographic, violent, abused, dissolute and drugged up to the eye balls; it's a real crazy trip man.

Brett was really off his box back then, maybe one of the last front men to really go to the edge of the vortex a la Lennon, Bowie, Jagger etc.

Of course they were completely washed out afterwards, there was no where else left to go.

"The Universal"!

though i'd probably agree with D and put that at #2 behind "Common People".

First two albums and the b-sides collection are great, the next two albums aren't bad either.

this is usually the suede i favor. "the wild ones" and "new generation" are tremendous from it.
